Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

A. I think someone forgot to tell Jed it was a draw
B. Change the play because there are too many defenders to block so the play is going nowhere. Even if Jed and Joel fan out the Mike is going to blow the play up for no yards. Hit a hot route or something.

- Broadcast view all-22 gives a better understanding. Box count *was* fine pre-snap.

- Credit to Coach Bowen and the Giants DBs, they held their water all game and disguised very well.
- line is responsible for the line, RBs are responsible for the LBs. Ford is the Lydell Ross of Cleveland. If it isn't right in front of him and blocked above expected, he ain't gonna find it let alone create it.

- this call and exchange, with the nickel pressure where the weak edge shows C, attacks B and the nickel gets the C, absolutely destroys this call. It's an unwinnable position. Although Jed *should* have close off this exchange inside and let Rome deal with the Nickel at best.

- this isn't to absolve Jed, he played like shit and it was obvious from the very first snap of the game on the TD throw. He can't consistently win his pass pro reps throughout the play. Even if he catches the fly and wins off the snap, like a WR re-winning a route, he ends up losing his feet and hand sync and yields pressure. In a way, Dawand and Jed both have the same problem - their footwork holds them back. Albeit for different reasons. DJ is just a massive human being who relies on his wingspan and strike, while Jed just can't master the mental and kinesthetic side of things.

The Browns have a four phase problem.

- OL play
- QB play
- RB play
- Horse abortion of play call structure, timing and execution. There is no identity, rhythm or consistency.

None of these position groups are good enough to help overcome the deficiencies of the other. The OL isn't good enough to allow Watson, with his currently questionable decisions and slow eyes, extra time like Darnold is getting in Minnesota. Watson isn't good enough to help his OL deal with pass protection in both his slow processing and his drop depth.

Rome can't maximize yardage blocked for and fails to take proper advantage of what is.

The coaches have failed to properly dial up and consistently use designs to stress defenses horizontally in the passing game to help open the vertical running game and vice versa.

Injuries, bad play and a poor mix of coaching styles. This team, even with Winston, won't magically be better save for a fortunate few placebo games teams usually have - similar to Carolina with Dalton.

Tell me a worse trade in NFL history...

At this moment? I can't. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

I'll give it this, the Browns brass mortgaged the farm for, what was, a REALLY promising and talented young QB in 2020. Usually they do dumb shit, like trade up for RBs, sink picks in QBs with obvious flaws, etc etc.

I was never a fan of the price paid. Not the money, the draft capital. Toss that in with the first offer being rejected by Watson himself, until the full guarantee was on the table, and there were enough red flags in that alone to have told them to avoid the risk.

Ultimately it's on Haslam, much like with Manziel. Is his Jerry Jones, just in Cleveland. And he's done more to hurt this team on the field than he's done to help.

Hershel Walker Trade would like a word ...so far this hasn't led to any Superbowls ... YET
Walker was at least somewhat productive for them for a couple of seasons. Not to the level expected, but somewhat. And at least he played. Watson has not been productive and has spent a large chunk of his time suspended or injured. Add in the fact that Watson is failing at the most important position in the game and that makes it much worse to me. He has added nothing to the team, his skills seem greatly diminished, and on top of that he came in with so many issues that a good portion of the fanbase never wanted him in the first place.

My biggest frustration is that we have some ultra elite pieces
and those elite pieces have a shelf life at the ultra elite performance and health level
and we're pissing those years away
First Joe Thomas, now Myles Garrett. Both are/will be all-time greats that waisted their careers toiling away for this shit franchise.

Never happened for Joe, but maybe Myles will be able to catch on with a contender later in his career.
