Saying Baker isn’t the guy would mean that fans wasted 4 years emotionally investing in the savior Baker Mayfield.
Really good thread on the Baker Bro phenomenon from a former football player (Canton McKinley; Ohio University) and current local talk show host.

I've made mention, hinted at this mentality. Not so articulately and well thought out. But the whole "Baker is one of us, he gets Cleveland" is a very real and pervasive mindset. I've seen people say they'd rather roll with and support a hurt and underperforming Baker than play Keenum. No joke.
Then again I don't think this phenomenon is limited to Baker nor is he the first.
Edit: and to be clear, Stefanski was no better last night. I refuse to believe a professional coach could be that oblivious to what he's watching unfold on the field. I genuinely believe he sent message last night, my question is - what was it and why?
Baker is better than he has played this year, obviously he has been hurt but it's just not working. I still think the Browns should plan to start him next year, and perhaps longer if his performance improves. But it seems to me that Baker doesn't want to stay long-term without the type of top-end contract his performance doesn't quite justify. It is a matter of time now for the Browns to replace Baker, the good part of the situation is they aren't forced to do it right away and could potentially hold onto him a couple more years while exploring ways to replace him.
Excited to watch the JVs of both Browns vs Bengals play
