He's a dead man walking. Unless Dorsey gets stubborn and doesn't want to admit what an enormous gaffe hiring him was. I could see him getting another year if they were showing improvement as the season has gone on, but they're doing the same stupid shit they were in week 1. Kitchens is so in over his head it's comical.Freddie claims he doesn't care about his future. I guess that explains his playcalling.
So assuming Freddie is shown the door, this is how long the clowns head coaches have lasted since this death march started 20 years ago...
Chris Palmer - 2 yrs
Butch Davis - 3+ yrs
Terry Robiskie - < 1 yr *
Romeo Crennel - 4 yrs
Eric Mangini - 2 yrs
Pat Shurmer - 2 yrs
Rob Chudzinski - 1 yr
Mike Pettine - 2 yrs
Hue Jackson - 2+ yrs
Gregg Williams < 1 yr *
Freddie Kitchens - 1 yr
* - interim HC
That's 9 full-time head coaches in 21 seasons, with 2 interims. Those 9 full-time HCs have lasted an average of ~2.25 seasons, or approximately 36 games.
The longest tenured HC they've had in that time is Romeo Crennel at 4 years with a career record of 24-40, which is second only to Butch Davis' 24-34 record for "most successful" HC they've had. That's pitiful. Crennel and Davis were the only coaches given a full third year. Freddie would be the second they bailed on after just one season. 4 lasted just two years with Hue Jackson getting fired midway through year 2. The last six head coaches have lasted an average of 1.75 seasons, or 28 games.
Bottom-line, they can add as much "star power" to this roster as they want; until they can figure out how to hire a HC that isn't a total dumpster fire, they will continue to suck. Given this outfit's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening.
IMO, if they want to salvage Baker, they should give Lincoln Riley a blank check. Sure it's a big risk, but they've fucked up every other way (re-tread HC, hot-shot coordinator, guy nobody ever heard of). Might as well chuck a hail mary and hire the young, energetic, brilliant offensive mind.
