Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

Freddie claims he doesn't care about his future. I guess that explains his playcalling.
He's a dead man walking. Unless Dorsey gets stubborn and doesn't want to admit what an enormous gaffe hiring him was. I could see him getting another year if they were showing improvement as the season has gone on, but they're doing the same stupid shit they were in week 1. Kitchens is so in over his head it's comical.

So assuming Freddie is shown the door, this is how long the clowns head coaches have lasted since this death march started 20 years ago...

Chris Palmer - 2 yrs
Butch Davis - 3+ yrs
Terry Robiskie - < 1 yr *
Romeo Crennel - 4 yrs
Eric Mangini - 2 yrs
Pat Shurmer - 2 yrs
Rob Chudzinski - 1 yr
Mike Pettine - 2 yrs
Hue Jackson - 2+ yrs
Gregg Williams < 1 yr *
Freddie Kitchens - 1 yr

* - interim HC

That's 9 full-time head coaches in 21 seasons, with 2 interims. Those 9 full-time HCs have lasted an average of ~2.25 seasons, or approximately 36 games.

The longest tenured HC they've had in that time is Romeo Crennel at 4 years with a career record of 24-40, which is second only to Butch Davis' 24-34 record for "most successful" HC they've had. That's pitiful. Crennel and Davis were the only coaches given a full third year. Freddie would be the second they bailed on after just one season. 4 lasted just two years with Hue Jackson getting fired midway through year 2. The last six head coaches have lasted an average of 1.75 seasons, or 28 games.

Bottom-line, they can add as much "star power" to this roster as they want; until they can figure out how to hire a HC that isn't a total dumpster fire, they will continue to suck. Given this outfit's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening.

IMO, if they want to salvage Baker, they should give Lincoln Riley a blank check. Sure it's a big risk, but they've fucked up every other way (re-tread HC, hot-shot coordinator, guy nobody ever heard of). Might as well chuck a hail mary and hire the young, energetic, brilliant offensive mind.

@NFBuck the other thing is ... in making these bad hires and doing the right thing and firing them quickly you end up fucking yourself because what established guy would want to deal with that shit and knowing after 1 or 2 years he’s gonna be canned if he doesn’t turn it around immediately...

Did Arians want to coach in Cleveland, and they said no?
He made it known he was interested in the job...

Whether they even talked to him, i don't know.

Oh, definitely. That's why if they are looking for their 10th fucking full-time HC this offseason, they'll probably get stuck with some re-tread desperate to get back into coaching...like Mike McCarthy.

You know this is all gonna come crashing down HARD.
My only fear is that they picked the wrong HC. I like Kitchens, and I hope he does well, but I get a serious “Tomsula” vibe from him. I could be wrong and he could be just the guy to take a (finally) really talented browns team to the promised land, but that’s my big concern...that they settled for the “good story” and didn’t get the right coach.

Here's the irony of the situation: this is the EXACT team that Browns fan wanted. The big swinging dick GM who was going to take chances on every bad boy and head case he could find. The rookie HC who was going to amp up the attitude and put the media in their place. The trash-talking gun-slinging "you're with us or against us" QB with a shit list as long as his arm. The prima donna WR who makes more magazine covers than tough catches. A team that jabbers and swaggers and cheap shots and tells Tony Grossi to go fuck himself. A team that's feelin' real dangerous....

Y'all happy now?
I was with you right up until that part about telling Grossi to go fuck himself

Jarvis Landry reportedly among multiple Browns players who yelled 'come get me' to Cardinals

Cleveland fell to 6-8 following Sunday's convincing loss to the Cardinals

The Cleveland Browns have proven to be one of the NFL's most entertaining teams this season but not for the reasons many had expected. The hapless franchise continues to find itself immersed in controversy despite an abundance of talent. Following Sunday's convincing 38-24 loss against the Arizona Cardinals, emotions boiled over.

NFL Media's Mike Silver reported that wide receiver Jarvis Landry and other Browns players were yelling at the Arizona sideline to "come get me," which is a phrase that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had reportedly uttered to other teams in pregame warmups earlier in the season. Landry was also caught in a verbal spat with first-year coach Freddie Kitchens on CBS cameras during Sunday's game.
.
.
.
Running back Kareem Hunt claimed that the team was not receiving 110-percent effort from the players Sunday; a remark easily verified by watching the game.

The season appears to be trending toward another offseason of drastic changes.

8 Potential 2020 head coaching candidates

Lincoln Riley

The crown jewel of potential coaching hires. It’s going to be tough to get Riley out of Norman. The Oklahoma job is actually better than some NFL jobs. There’s no reason for Lincoln to leave college to coach in Jacksonville or Atlanta. The D.C. job comes with a marquee franchise but a bad front office and one of the most difficult owners in the league. It wouldn’t be surprising if Riley simply didn’t leave because there wasn’t a good situation available.

If he does leave, it’s going to take a whole lot of money and whatever freedom Riley wants with his personnel. Riley already makes enough money at Oklahoma and he can wait out the perfect job. Maybe a situation with Baker Mayfield becomes available in the next few years if the Browns disappoint.

In all honesty if the issues with the players is because Freddie sucks they need to get rid of Freddie. Personally I would have never traded for OBJ since they should have known you don't go from 0 and 16 to the Super Bowl in 2 years with a first time head coach. There are too many mouths to feed on that offense and I would rather have Chubb and Hunt than OBJ. Someone will probably give them a first rounder for OBJ given that the Giants ate the brunt of his contract, but they need someone else to call the plays regardless if they bring Freddie back. Pure Browns move to blow it the first time they they ever were in a position to take their pick of head coaching candidates.

So begin the Urban Meyer and browns rumors. Really not sure what to think of him coaching the Clowns. He would be their most competent hire, but that organization is such a cluster is there any chance he could succeed?
