Hope is an incurable disease that afflicts Browns fans.
Of course. That's what gives me hope that Peppers can be better in man coverage than TJ was.
You have seen Peppers try and cover people for 3 years in college.
He isn't going to all of a sudden figure it out going against better receivers.
His best potential on defense might be as a blitzing safety/LB no way he covers anyone without getting burnt.
I was thinking about Peppers from the perspective of an offensive coordinator in the NFL.
It doesn't matter who- TE, RB, WR- if you can manage to get him in coverage against literally any eligible receiver he is a liability you can exploit all day.
You can also run at him all day because he 1) can't tackle 2) disappears in traffic 3) can't play in space.
If I was an OC I would go at him on every single play, run or pass.
As a DC, you have to guess correctly what blitz to send him on every single play or it seems to me he is an total liability for the defense.
But man, is he going to look athletic out there!
I also suppose there is a chance they can coach him how to cover and tackle properly--- but it's the Browns, and he's a wolverine, so I don't think anyone should hold their breath on that one.
Just as troubling was the fact that he didn't catch up to Barrett for 40 yards. Barrett has great vision and sets up his defenders well (though he's hardly an elite athlete like Braxton who should make great defenders look stupid with that juke of his), but his speed is very, very average. He can't play any other position at an OSU level in college, yet he's outclassed Peppers frequently in the open field. It's not hard to imagine Le'Veon Bell posterizing him up the middle, on the edge, and in coverage.
I love JT but he's not an elite athlete in NFL terms and had no problem juking Peppers. That should have worried a lot of teams about wasting a 1st round pick on a DB dropped to LB/Star because he was too questionable in coverage (in college!) and gets posterized in space by a guy that's unlikely to go in the first 3 rounds.
media-legendary. Well done.As a LB/S hybrid he's pretty small for NFL... Shazier and Chancellor are similar size with 15+ pounds and some height on him. And we've already discussed his media-legendary athleticism doesn't show itself on the field - in coverage or in space.
Maybe I don't know the entire Gordon story, but it seems other guys have done worse and been punished less by the NFL.
Some other guys? This guy just likes to smoke weed. Practically everyone has done worse.
Jesus. Let him piss, if it's clean, he plays. Continue to test him. How long does he have to miss for the NFL to make their point?
The guy knows the rules. The rule may be stupid, but it's still the rule. So if he has no interest in following them repeatedly...this is what happens. Lots of people can't smoke weed and keep their jobs.
If this is true and he has not failed a drug test,, good old Roger is certainly not helping him changing his way of life in a positive direction.Absolutely, but from what I understand (and of course this could be wrong,) Gordon hasn't tested positive any time recently. He has shown a desire to change his way of life.
