Back in '07, I remember thinking, you know as long as they take Thomas at 3 if he was on the board, I told myself I'd be happy.

Then they got dumb. fucking really dumb.

I think I tell this story every year. Every year they do something dumb, well, except last year, but they didn't do anything particularly smart either.

Having said all that, I don't care if they trade up as long as its not for something fucking stupid and make sure your guy is on the board when you do it. The one thing the nerds have going for them is, while I don't think they use the traditional pick value chart, I just don't see them trading more than 2 picks (including the 12 - OK maybe a 4 or something - but you don't pay 16 million for probably mid 2nd round pick to burn them because the Jets really want another 1st or 2nd.) to move up to say, 6th. I'm half curious if they actually like Kizer or Watson and are smokescreening, I mean shit, what if they can get the right deal to go to 5th or 6th and take someone else?

Wouldn't surprise me if they stuck at 12 and if the guy they want isn't there to move down again.

Personally, I'd like to actually draft some guys with the picks they have.

Ok folks... whats everyone's realistic take on what happens tonight here's what I think is the likest scenario

First Pick: Garrett
we trade 12, a 2nd possibly 3 or 4 and maybe a 2nd next year to trade up in front of the Jets: Mitch

I think this would be a disaster, for analytics guys I'm not sure how they can fall in love with a guy who hasn't played that many games but I think Tennessee Jerra/Brown is going to make them do something stupid.

whats everyone elses take

My best case scenario? Garrett at #1 and then one of the following: stay at 12 and take BPA, whether ot be a qb or whatever. Or, use their 4th and 2018 2nd (exactly what they got from Tennessee last year) to move up to 5 or 6 and take Malik hooker, thereby making fools of the entire media that have been pounding the trubiski drums.

My guess is that if they stay at #12 and Mahomes is on the board, they take him. If neither he nor trubiski are there at #12, they are going to take Davis Webb at #33.

Quite frankly, given they current info and dynamics, I'd love it if they took either Conley or Sidney jones at #65.

which RB.. Cook? Whitey and Fournette aren't making it out of the top 10

Yeah, OK, Cook is the guy with baggage, and they never learn their lesson, so...sold!

Mixon...edit: looks like someone else mentioned Mixon already. I actually think the guy is supremely talented but he just isn't a take with the off-field stuff where the Browns are in this first round. I can't see Mixon going top 12. But who the fuck am I?

Seriously though...

At #1, Garrett or Allen. I am actually not completely sold on Garrett because of the whole "taking plays offl" issue and the fact that like 70% of his sacks came against non-conference cream puffs but I'll be able to live with them taking someone that at least has been deemed worthy of that spot. Allen would be a "maybe I won't go jump off a bridge..." pick as well.

I can't stomach any more trade downs but wouldn't be surprised to see one here. Problem is, a trade down seems like it would mean they are taking a QB and I'n not on board with that. Some sort of trade down that results on them taking Mike Williams and Marshon Lattimore/Malik Hooker would have me completely erect. I know that the Browns really, really, really need defense but I just think Williams is a stud and 5 years from now, it'll be "Jesus, why in the fuck did the Browns pass on that guy to draft [insert name of a player who will bust and be out of the league in 5 years.] Lattimore/Hooker is still a notch in the defense belt and a damn fine one at that.

I can't see a trade down because honestly no one else wants to trade up. For being such a no-brained #1, it doesn't seem like anyone else wants Garrett that badly.

It almost feels like a Clowney/Mack situation.

Everybody was so quick to anoint JaDeveon as the next coming. He's only now been catching on for Houston. Of course that's after a couple seasons worth of injuries and being motivated by an all timer in Watt.

Nobody wanting to trade up should tell everyone the value of the QBs and Garrett. Garrett can go #1 but there are question marks. Quite simply, the Browns picked the wrong year to FINALLY be the worst team in the league. They always end up in the 2nd to 5th worst range when there is a surefire #1.

There are some really good players in this draft that aren't going to go first overall. Give me Williams/Lattimore/Hooker and I'd be as happy as can be. Someone is going to get those guys and it likely won't be Cleveland. And the Browns have the option to take anyone. That's Cleveland.

Could be worse. Could have been 2013.

As always with the clowns, I'm torn. The part of me that loves my Sunday comedy fix is kinda hoping they go full retard and take Trubisky #1, or trade a bevy of pics to move up from 12 for him.

The Cleveland fan in me, the guy that really feels for all of the loyal fans of this horseshit franchise hopes they don't outthink themselves, go Garrett at #1, and take (non-qb) BPA at 12. None of these QBs wow me enough to think they're worth taking with either of those picks. My favorite of the bunch is probably Mahomes, but he's gonna take a couple of years to develop, so I don't see him worthy of a 1st rounder. Don't out think yourself, don't try to prove you're the smartest guy in the room. Just use your picks to stock the roster with BPA and go QB later or wait for next year. You ain't winning shit this year, so there's no rush. Build the roster so that it's in decent shape when you can find your QB.

What do I think they'll do? Fuck if I know. Deep down I always think "clowns gonna clown" and they'll go full retard. So for now I'll go with that.

Oh, they're a great comedy fix. However, this year they're in the best shape they've been in a long time to turn this shit show around. Because of this, I think they should...

Exactly what I think they should do. Although, if not Garrett at #1, take Allen. OR trade down (which I usually hate) in the 5-10 range, acquire more picks to keep the team stocked with ammo, and get 2 of Mike Williams/Lattimore/Hooker with their two top 12 picks.

They could do well to get a couple of those guys (as well as I could hope) AND add even more picks to next year's large number of picks.

Hue might have won the battle... but he'll lose the war

This actually makes me sad. Not taking a QB with a top 12 pick sad but I've started to like the idea of trading down for picks and taking Mike Williams. Not that it was ever a move that the Browns were ever rumored to make or anything that anyone media-wise has suggested. It just seems to be a good move to potentially get who I think could be the best offensive player in the draft AND get picks to get him. Then grab a Buckeye secondary player and voila. The Giants got ODB at something like pick 12. Do that draft again and he goes way higher.

This is one of those years ... there's really not a single QB i would take in the first half of this draft...

Mike's not gonna be there at 12 and noone really wants the 1. Sadly we need to get the QB/OL situation worked out first Mike would probably go to waste.

Not at 12. They need to trade down, get some picks and take him at like 5. They can get Lattimore or Hooker at 12 (I hope.)

As far as Williams going to waste...they made some strides on the OL in FA. That is a start. The QB situation can be addressed next year when there is a QB who is franchise worthy. Williams can get his feet wet this year, learn the routes and be ready to help make the job for the new QB easier next year (he'll need it."

The Browns can also find some quality OL in the second round, hopefully and maybe snag another good one in FA next year and this team suddenly has an offense with a QB of the future, Williams and Coleman at WR, a solid OL and Crowell (or another RB since Crowell could be gone.)
