Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Can't link to the article - I presume it's about Crowell?
as part of that article from that link and your guests was correct.
That paper is going online pay so there are problems with that site right now.

BEREA: Browns undrafted rookie running back Isaiah Crowell possesses no shortage of confidence and he also possessed a significant amount of potential when he left high school in 2011 to play for the University of Georgia, a Southeastern Conference powerhouse that happened to be close to home.

He flashed his potential but also found enough trouble to send his football career down a different path. The road wasn’t long and winding, but there were detours of his making.

After being chosen as the SEC Freshman of the Year and leading the Bulldogs to the conference title game, things unraveled.

Slapped with felony weapons charges, according to reports, Crowell found himself dismissed from Georgia’s program. Although authorities eventually dropped the charges, he still had to locate a new college home. Enter Alabama State. More honors, including being named Southwest Athletic Conference newcomer of the year in 2012, came along with 6.6 yards per carry on 1,211 yards with 15 touchdowns in 2013.

They took a poll on Dawgs by Nature and Crowell got nearly half the vote for who would you keep as the 3rd RB. Lewis got 34% of the vote. Personally I think they both make the team unless Crowell fucks up. I think Lewis should see plenty of reps in the slot given the lack of depth at WR.

Lewis going from the backfield to the slot gives a nice mismatch for us. If Miles can stay healthy and be 75% of what he was while I presume we'll be creative with Cameron. Passing game might not be too terrible. Of course this is all predicated on running the ball.

If West or Crowell can block Lewis motioning from the slot to the backfield might be a good change up on the outside zone. If Lewis is one of them I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2 RB look with neither of them being FB's.

On another note, I wonder what the NFL is doing with Gordon. They are certainly not doing the Browns any favors by dragging this out. Maybe they are afraid of the whole marijuana issue and it is possible ramifications like, how many guys in the NFL have never smoked marijuana. They just were not being tested twice a week like Gordon was being tested because he was in Phase 2.

As long as there is a resolution by camp I don't think it will hurt the Browns planning. They knew about it before the draft and still didn't draft a WR. They brought in guys like Austin with the assumption that Gordon will miss time. Doesn't really matter if it's 6 games or a season at this point. I'm sure some team will lose their #1 WR to a season ending injury during camp and I think that is how the Browns are going to treat Gordon.

It would be nice if the NFL would change their stance on weed given that it's legal in some states and isn't a performance enhancer. I don't see them testing for tobacco, which actually is a stimulant. From what I've heard they have been trying to change the rules on weed for a couple years now to increase the amount it takes to trigger a positive test, but the Players Association is bogging down the process because it would include more testing for the cutting edge performance enhancers.

I've also read that even if they passed a new policy today it wouldn't matter for Gordon since his failed test or whatever it was happened with the current rules.

It doesn't bode well for Gordon when Brazil of the Colts was just given the year long ban.

Side note - Dion Jordan was given a 4 game suspension for PED use. Even more reason I'm glad we didn't draft that kid.
