Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Either way I know many of us would have preferred Farmer over Banner/LOLBardi. This move may have been done for dumb reasons, but might end up evolving into a smart decision.

Let's not complain - 'Bardi isn't around. Statistically speaking, that's got to help lower the chances of fucking up the draft.

Maybe, but it's his money...he obviously decided the entire package he hired was a mistake, and from what I've seen, he is correct. That said, let the conspiracy theories abound...why now? Did Banner and LOLbardi not agree with Haslem on draft strategy or target? Will REALLY be an interesting draft now...

the rumors floating about are that the coaching search was the great revelation that made haslam pull the trigger. apparently the league has a terrible perception of banner and lombardi was starting to turn on others in the front office. if anything remotely close to this is true, then these guys should have been on the chopping block.

I can agree with this. But with a new regime in place, will Haslam let the professionals do their jobs, or will he become Jerry Jones 2.0 ... or worse.
I agree with this as well...in fact we here at the office were talking about how it started to look like Haslem was trying to channel his inner Dan Snyder not that long ago...I hope he gets good people this time (Farmer seems to have a level of respect, not sure about Pettine) and that he then lets them do the football stuff. I have no problem with an owner firing people when they do the football stuff wrong...it's when the owner meddles in the football stuff and then fires the very people that he overruled that problems really arise.

I can believe that, at least about Banner...I find it more difficult to believe that Lombardi's reputation was somehow never made aware to him, especially since he never showed up at a PC because he was either too chickenshit or they kept him away intentionally, but maybe it was reaffirmed through the search.

I am hoping Jim Nantz shows up on Cleveland talk radio today :slappy:

There was a rumor floated over at the Browns Scout forum about 10 days ago that Lombardi was going to get fired. There were all sorts of tweets that there was going to be a front-office shakeup from M F Jones. In the short term this looks like an excellent move but it will take a while to see if LJB's prediction comes through about Banner wanted to be another Jones (that is Jerry Jones).

Up to a point, but right now Haslam is running the Browns the way Henry VIII ran England. I guess if you chop off enough heads, eventually the right ones are going to roll.
Well he's only had one group to fire...if this next group is gone within a year or two, then I think that will be a more apt analogy. The benefit of the doubt would be him looking and saying "WTF did I just do" and clearing it all out and starting over because he knew he had a turd salad. I don't know if he deserves that benefit or not, and we won't really know until the Farmer/Pettine era concludes...hopefully after more than a year

Stat of the day: The Browns have had 3 HCs and 3 GMs in the last 407 days.

Everyone will report to Banner and Farmer will be bringing in additional staff to help him. Farmer will be responsible for the 53 man roster and the coach will be responsible for the 45 men came roster. I do not understand why everyone is pissed at Banner when nobody liked Lombardi. I say let it play out and let us see what happens. It certainly cannot get any worse.

WTF?!?!?!?!?

So we go from the 3 stooges to one, and that one may be in federal prison within a year or two???

I don't care if this is the right move (ie Farmer in charge) but do we have a guy worst than Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones rolled into one calling all the shots???

Well that's kind of what we're all debating...we'll see. The success or lack thereof of this regime will certainly define Haslam, for better or worse. He used his Get Out of Jail Free card already, if he ever had one (pardon the pun).
