Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

I don't know. I want Grimes!
CLEVELAND -- The Browns have a very mild interest in former Akron Zips receiver Domenik Hixon, a league source told the Plain Dealer.

Hixon, 28, is an unrestricted free agent from the Giants, where he was part of two Super Bowl Championships.

Mostly a reserve receiver, Hixon caught 39 passes for 567 yards and two touchdowns last season. Overall, he's started 13 of his 61 NFL games.

Hixon, who sat out most of one season with a torn ACL, visited the Raiders last week.

Not when you first started attending Browns home games in the mid-1950s. Yup, I am that old.

I could give shit less about anyone's age. I only caught the tail end of some of our better teams (late 80's, early 90's) most of my "prime years" have been spent on shitty teams.

If anyone, I'd say MY generation is tired of seeing such a fucking terrible squad week after week. Yet we pack that stadium time and time again giving them our hard earned money. I haven't seen a championship on ANY level in Cleveland. You have. Be thankful for that.

That said. Signing, or in this case, not signing Grimes isn't going to make or break the season.

In fact its the opposite. I applaud the front office for not tossing that kind of money to a CB coming off a season ending injury. All reports indicate that our chances of landing Milliner are quite high. Which, will be the first time in a while the Browns have had the ability to land the player they covet the most without having to trade up to do so.

I thought we signed about a dozen FA DBs already.. is Skine still around? shame he's so hot and cold (mostly cold)

All the DB's they've signed so far seems to be more about depth than finding a starter at CB2. As long as Milliner is there at #6 and they take them they will be fine at DB. I'm sure someone on the roster could play FS with Haden, Milliner, and Ward at the other 3 spots.

the problem, as you well know, is that the NFL has turned into a passing game and the Browns are severely lacking when it comes to dbs . It is just not the free safety position where we are lacking. I sure hope that some of the backups that we have signed can play the nickel and dime positions.

I think that was the goal. They wouldn't be signing guys if they didn't think they could start at CB2, nickle, or dime. Right now my only two concerns on defense are a starting CB and if the ILB's can play in a 3-4. Just like signing an all world guard would make the OL one of the best in the NFL adding another #1 type CB will make the DB's one of the best in the league.

We know Jackson has a couple decent years left and can play just about anywhere inside or out. That gives me a little bit of comfort in terms of his leadership and knowledge passing to the other players who are lining up next to him, fighting for a starting job.

Jackson is a better 4-3 LB then he is a 3-4 ILB that was proven when Ryan was still the DC for the Browns. Jackson is quick but he has not that physical at the point of attack. I know that you will take exception to this but that's not unusual.

...? Not really. I agree completely. I've said before Jackson isn't physical enough or aggressive in his pursuit to the ball carrier before he gets to/past the line.

Also aware he's a better MIKE in 4-3. However he's still the best LB on roster at the moment.
