Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Nailed it. Need to find backup RB's since they didn't have any that would be good in a pinch if Richardson got hurt. Ogbonnaya would get reps as the backup big back with Smelly as the backup FB (Smelly cut). I like the Rainey pickup. Should be a good fill-in for Lewis.

Probably have to test out a couple kickers. I'd look for a move in a day or two. Chud doesn't seem to be all that worried about the kicker. Just give me someone young with a big leg that could grow into another Dawson. I don't want an old retread like Graham.

I'm not real keen on 2 waiver wire guys backing up our only RB that really has any meaningful game experience. I guess they are banking on him staying healthy, because if he goes down in week 5 they are sunk. They can always find a kicker...but the RB position, well, whatever I guess...this team is going to suck until 2015 anyway.

The Browns RB situation was great until their 2nd and 3rd string backs went on the IR. If the Browns had Hardesty from last year and Lewis from the first 2 preseason games they would have been sitting pretty. With those losses pretty much any team is going to be hitting the waiver wire to find some depth. I'd rather pickup 2 guys that produced in the preseason and got cut by other teams than keep Jackson who did nothing in the preseason. Even better both guys that they picked up can return kicks, which was a huge loss when Lewis got hurt. IMO a major reason the offense looked so bad in the 3rd preseason game was because their starting field position was the 15 yard line.

I see your point, but returning kicks isn't as important as it used to be in the NFL either...most of the time you are downing it in the end zone or taking a risk bringing it out. If RIchardson gets hurt, we have Ogbo and undrafted FAs...that is a frightening prospect. Jackson at least has some experience, though he hasn't done much recently. Kind of surprised they didn't look at a guy like Green on the waiver wire though.

Cundiff? That's their answer? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Makes me wonder of they didn't like that the two guys they had seemed injury prone. At least Cundiff will get a bunch of touchbacks, which is one thing I think they didn't like about Graham. I would rather see them take a flier one a rookie or second year guy that was a good kicker in college with a big leg and let him grow into the job like Dawson did.

Can I get an over under on the number of kickers the Browns use this season?

2.5 is the over under right now, bets?

The Browns seem to treat kicker like I do fantasy kickers on my team. Last pick in the draft or pre-week 1 pickup if I see a player that I like in the last round. I'll keep him until a bye week or I see someone with a better match up. I refuse to have more than 1 kicker on my team at a time regardless of how good the kicker is.

Hmmm... and 2 have the Ravens winning the division. And, I mean, I'll give them that they might be winners by default if they just think the Bengals aren't all that... BUT, those guys also have them as the wildcard, so, its not as though they think the Ravens are gonna squeak out an 8-8 in a weak division either (and Kirwan has the Steelers as the other wildcard.)

None of this is to say that the Browns won't be dead last in the division... and indeed for whatever reason, maybe the division as a whole is better than I think... but, I do think the Bengals will win it, but mostly because I see a Steelers team that has injury issues and looks, well, flat out old. And the Ravens lost Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Paul Kruger, Matt Birk... obviously Ray Lewis, and finally traded Anquan Boldin... now, think about that last one. What if last year the Ravens hadn't had Boldin to pick on Buster Skrine last year, those games are really close and maybe the Browns win. This, to me was a 10-6 team that got hot at the right time, they beat (and lost to the steelers by 3) they split 2 OT games, Got Smoked by the Broncos and Texans and beat the Chiefs 9-6 in the regular season. And they lose all those guys and are gonna be good?

So long story short, those are a bunch of "I'll believe it when I see it picks" and basically what I'm saying is generally the rest of the division isn't as much better than Cleveland as has been the case in the recent past, IMO.

You can't lose what the Ravens and Steelers lost and get better. I'm not aware of any changes the Bengals made to improve by that much. I don't see how the Browns aren't the most improved team in the North based strictly on wins an losses compared to last year. Maybe that improvement doesn't get them out of the cellar of the North, but I feel better about this season than I have since they came back. I don't think it's too big of a stretch for the Browns to bring it together and make the playoffs if everything falls into place. If they can go 3-3 or better in the north I think they are a playoff team.

Well... the early returns on the Ravens are about right on the money.

Many of us called that the second Boldin was let go. Even more so when pitta was hurt. Then you lose not only the leadership - but the schematic intelligence of Lewis and Reed. No 2nd WR to speak of. Dickson has stone hands.

If the Browns can sneak one away from the Bungles - I don't see 8-8 being out of the realm of possible. Hell, if Flacco continues to regress it could be 9-7.

Ok so offensive line or QB with the 1st pick?

I'd lean towards offensive line right now. This team is fucking horrible just about everywhere. Weeden is going to get killed (literally) and he's not necessarily going to remind anyone of Dan Marino in any case.

It really depends where they pick. I don't think Weeden is the problem. He isn't the answer, but he was running for his life today and was really only responsible for the first INT that ended up being better than the punt they would have had if he threw the ball away. I can't even remember how many drops they had today, but I know it was more than 5.

They need a #1 WR, a couple guards, and a #2 CB before they worry about QB IMO. I think they need to scheme the blocking better if Schwartz is getting owned by a DE like Wake today.

If they pick high and there is a top of the line WR I'd go there. If they are in the middle of the draft I'd go OG or CB. They'll probably end up a little too late for a #1 WR, but not low enough for the best OG.

They'll probably end up taking a mobile QB that will take a few years to develop. :smash:
