Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Hardesty put on IR for this season and they finally waved that FB (Marecic) :)

Beanie is just sitting out there waiting for a phone call....

Hardesty flat out needs to be cut. Haslam's "He's a good ole' boy from Tennessee" mantra be damned.

If this team can be 6-10 7-9 and be competitive in their games, then that's about what should be expected for the season.
The secondary has too many holes. We need serious upgrades at both guard spots. Another TE and ILB while we're at it.

Jackson needs to go. I don't see what he is going to do this year. I'd be all for giving Beanie a shot and if that doesn't work find someone else that might fit what they need from a RB. There has to be a dozen RB's on the scrap heap that are better than any RB not named Richardson on the Browns roster.

So no starters tonight, which is probably smart. It isn't as much about guys like Weeden and Little as Thomas and Mack. I don't really want my starting QB to play against a bunch of guys that are going to be playing their ass off to make the Bears roster if my stud LT and C are on the bench.

Also looks like the Browns would rather have Graham's experience at kicker, but don't like his weak leg so they are testing out the punter that they just brought in on kick offs to see how he looks. Personally I would rather go with the young kicker with the big leg than the old guy that has washed out with a few teams so far. IIRC Dawson wasn't all that good for a few years until he became one of the top kickers in the league so they might as well let a young guy start to learn the Lake Erie winds.

It will be interesting to see how many players that initially make it through the next round of cuts end up on the opening day roster after they want to bring in guys that get cut elsewhere. Richardson and Ogbonnaya are the only 2 RB's that should feel like they have a job. I also wouldn't be surprised to see changes at OL, ILB, CB, and S.

Hmmm... and 2 have the Ravens winning the division. And, I mean, I'll give them that they might be winners by default if they just think the Bengals aren't all that... BUT, those guys also have them as the wildcard, so, its not as though they think the Ravens are gonna squeak out an 8-8 in a weak division either (and Kirwan has the Steelers as the other wildcard.)

None of this is to say that the Browns won't be dead last in the division... and indeed for whatever reason, maybe the division as a whole is better than I think... but, I do think the Bengals will win it, but mostly because I see a Steelers team that has injury issues and looks, well, flat out old. And the Ravens lost Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Paul Kruger, Matt Birk... obviously Ray Lewis, and finally traded Anquan Boldin... now, think about that last one. What if last year the Ravens hadn't had Boldin to pick on Buster Skrine last year, those games are really close and maybe the Browns win. This, to me was a 10-6 team that got hot at the right time, they beat (and lost to the steelers by 3) they split 2 OT games, Got Smoked by the Broncos and Texans and beat the Chiefs 9-6 in the regular season. And they lose all those guys and are gonna be good?

So long story short, those are a bunch of "I'll believe it when I see it picks" and basically what I'm saying is generally the rest of the division isn't as much better than Cleveland as has been the case in the recent past, IMO.

You can't lose what the Ravens and Steelers lost and get better. I'm not aware of any changes the Bengals made to improve by that much. I don't see how the Browns aren't the most improved team in the North based strictly on wins an losses compared to last year. Maybe that improvement doesn't get them out of the cellar of the North, but I feel better about this season than I have since they came back. I don't think it's too big of a stretch for the Browns to bring it together and make the playoffs if everything falls into place. If they can go 3-3 or better in the north I think they are a playoff team.

I think the Bengals will be better, at least on paper...the passing game gets another dimension with Eifert and Bernard should boost the running game. The question will be the defense, but they should also be good. I agree that the Steelers and Ravens will be worse, it's almost like pundits are expecting deep playoff runs because of the team name more than the personnel...but I don't think the Browns have filled enough holes yet.

You would think after all these years, the 2 oldest NFL teams (Cleveland & Detroit) that never made it to the super bowl, would come up with some kind of plan in their franchises to really change all of this.

It has been absolutely disgusting to me to watch, after all these years, a team like the Browns go year after year just being an average NFL team. When they should be one of the most respected and revered teams in all of the NFL. We came Oh so close in 86 87 & 88 to getting there and we lost. But in 95 Modell changed all that and we have never been the same ever since. I always wonder how far we could have gone with Belichick, had Art Left that team alone and stayed as the "Original Browns"

Then I look at the Ravens and I cringe to think it was because of Cleveland that they are where they are today. At least I like that "Chud" is giving a lot of guys from the Ohio and Cleveland area, a good look see,
if they have the pride and fight within them to play for such a once hallowed organization like the Browns and bring us back to some kind of respect that we once had. I am running out of years in my life and I wonder if I will ever be around to see the "Cleveland Browns" win a super bowl.

Who needs kickers when you have 12 OL. Be interesting to see what moves are made over the next couple days. They have at least 4 guys on the roster right now that I'm pretty sure won't be at the next practice.

So they have no kicker and they cut Slaughter, officially making that pick a WTF Lombardi special. I agree, a lot of things are going to change, I predict 5-6 more roster moves.

I'm surprised they didn't stash Slaughter on the IR. I don't think he's ready to play and they figure they can throw him on the practice squad with him being the next man up when one of the DB's goes down for the year. The risk is only if another team doesn't mind using a roster spot on him until he gets back to 100%.

Jackson needs to go. I don't see what he is going to do this year.

Nailed it. Need to find backup RB's since they didn't have any that would be good in a pinch if Richardson got hurt. Ogbonnaya would get reps as the backup big back with Smelly as the backup FB (Smelly cut). I like the Rainey pickup. Should be a good fill-in for Lewis.

Probably have to test out a couple kickers. I'd look for a move in a day or two. Chud doesn't seem to be all that worried about the kicker. Just give me someone young with a big leg that could grow into another Dawson. I don't want an old retread like Graham.
