Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Fire Shurmur, Jauron interim, go pay Chuckie whatever the [censored] he wants in January. If anybody was born to coach the Browns, it's Jon Gruden.

Would seem to be a good fit with the talent on the Browns roster. i.e. WCO and 4-3 defense

Only problem would be his willingness to take over for Big Mike and that he would probably require full control. I'd look for them to be more in line with what the Steelers did with Tomlin.

Depending on the steps taken, i.e. - coaching, drafting, free agency.

I think it would be like following in the mold of the current version of the
Houston Texans. They have excellent line play. A good QB. A great
HB and good 1b HB.

Aside from Andre Johnson (who never seems too be 100%) they have...? Owen Daniels?

Shaub is a damn fine QB. He might not be your Brees, Brady or Rodgers. So you might not call him elite. But he does exactly what they want to do. I think I can see Weeden filling that same role. He might not be the next Bernie or Sipe - but he can do a very good job managing the game, and making the throws he has too while being backed up behind a great rushing attack and sound defense.

Given our defense appears ahead of the offensive development, I think it
fits right. Of course we don't have an Andre Johnson - but FA is a great way
to get solid WR's (would LOVE Bowe here) the draft a fine way to add young
defensive talent and address that nagging need at gaurd.

Never thought I'd find myself saying I want my team being like the Texans. But I do.
Regardless of anyone saying you need an "elite" Qb to win games and a SuperBowl - you don't.
Look at Houston. Hell, look at San Fran. In all honesty it'll probably be those two teams in the SB this year.

Crap:( I was hoping Haslam will tell Big Mike to hit the road this season.

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns new owner Jimmy Haslam said today through a Browns spokesman that personnel changes are "not something we'll discuss until after the year."
That means despite the Browns 0-4 record, Haslam apparently has no plans to overhaul the staff during the season.

Asked about the comment after practice, Shurmur said, "right now we're trying to get our first victory. That's my focus right now.''

In an interview earlier today on FOX Business, Haslam sounded positive about the team.

"I don’t think anybody thinks 0-4 [is acceptable] and certainly [President] Mike Holmgren and [coach] Pat Shumur don’t think it is and we don’t think it is,” Haslam said. “But we’ve got a young team. We’re building. I think we’re heading in the right direction. We don’t officially own the team yet and we’ve said all along that we’re not going to make any comments on personnel until after we own the team. That’s in about two weeks. And candidly we’ll be halfway through the football season then, so any personnel decisions we’d make would be toward the end of the year.”

Haslam, who will be approved as the Browns new owner Oct. 16 in Chicago, attended practice today and spent time chatting with Pat Shurmur beforehand.

He'll take over full operation of the team shortly thereafter, when the sale closes.

i would actually like to see us keep this group around for one more year...the thing that has been killing this franchise, besides player talent, is we get a new head coach and front office every 2 years...theres no way you can do anything positive by doing this...if the special last night on NFL network about the 95 team in Cleveland proved anything, its stay the course and positive things can happen...even tho we will probably have a worst record then last year, i like the direction we are going and i no doubt think this team has more talent then last year...in reality we should of beat Philly, a win against Philly and i think we play better in cinci possibly resulting in a win, Buffalo is a loss and we could of won in Baltimore...bottom line is we have been competitive...in the long run losing these games is actually good for our draft purposes as we no doubt need more talent...getting rid off holmgren will probably result in getting rid of shumur as well...see how the rest of the year goes and base it on that like Haslam has said

I could understand that if Shurmur would have shown one hint that he has what it takes to be an NFL head coach in 20 games. He hasn't...at all. That was a ridiculous hire from the get-go, and you don't keep the wrong people on just for continuity. If Haslam wants to bring in his own people, I would have zero problem with that. While Holmgren and company have upped the overall talent level some, they've still failed to make enough progress on the field. And they are responsible for the syphilis bomb WR corp. They also spent good draft choices on Greg Little, Montario Hardesty, and Owen Marecic, so they've had plenty of miscues. Say what you want about "being competitive", but 0-4 is 0-4. [censored] moral victories.

The new owner has the right to implement his vision using his people. I don't think it's fair to saddle him with leftovers from the old regime just because the previous owner was constantly making changes. Otherwise I agree with what you're saying. I think he's going to make the changes he feels are necessary, but once he does that I hope he's ready to stick to his guns as those people take their lumps.

NFBuck's post has me thinking about whether or not I can recall a worse group of WRs since I've started watching football.

I can't. How is it possible to have this little at such an important position? Since Braylon had his nice little run, there hasn't been anything.. unless I'm forgetting someone?
