Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

He threw 8 TDs against Baylor yesterday, dude.

Shit man, he's a lock!

I know you're kidding, but if anyone really thinks Smith is a better QB prospect because of a game that ended 70-63... It's clearly a different league and different way of playing. Which is exactly why he isn't going #1.

I think he's an amazing college quarterback. No arguing that. But, he's a product of the same system as Weeden, and pretty much the same as Bradford. I don't see it translating to the pros...and he doesn't have the freakish physical tools to overcome that.

With respect to Okie, its a fairly more 'pro style' attack then WVU.
And I'm on record saying I think Bradford would be a Fine QB if
He had a decent oline and a WR not named Danny.

Just a thought, someone made a list of the top QB/WR combos of all time. Joe Montana/Jerry Rice was #3, Steve Young/Jerry Rice was #2. Between them they won 5 Super Bowls because of the TEAM they were on. My bottom line is, Weeden/McCoy are just fine for now, let's build a team.

When Brady rose to prominence, what did he have surrounding him?

How about Toothlessberger? Flacco sucks but he gets into the AFC championship because of what exactly?

Cleveland could very well pick a QB. But until they fucking fix their goddamn problems everywhere else, a QB is just another rectangular peg in a square hole.

Hmm....I said that back in February and I'm pretty sure I've said the same thing since before they drafted Brady Quinn too...

Another 1st round QB would make 3 in 7 drafts. That's a ticket to continued 5-11 seasons...

Yep....I'm kind of coming around to the idea that Weeden isn't entirely incompetent, especially if he can get a consistent running game going and receivers who don't drop everything. That said, having exactly that got Derek Anderson to a pro bowl and made Colt McCoy look like a world-beater for 7 games in 2010.

The blueprint is there - hell it's all over the very division the Browns play in. But why they don't pay attention to it and why some of their fans don't see it is beyond me.

5-11 would be fucking outstanding at this point.

Here is what the Browns have left

Week Opponent Outcome
5 @ NY Giants Loss
6 Cincinnati Pick-Em
7 @ Indianapolis Loss
8 San Diego Loss
9 Baltimore Loss
10 BYE WIN
11 @ Dallas Loss
12 Pittsburgh Loss
13 @ Oakland Pick-Em
14 Kansas City Pick-Em
15 Washington Loss
16 @ Denver Loss
17 @ Pittsburgh Loss

Even with the pick-ems, I'm stretching. The Browns have a habit of winning meaningless games but the last seven games they will be playing are against teams that are gunning for the playoffs besides Oakland. Once the schedule was posted and after the draft, IMO, it was a perfect storm for an 0 - 16 season. It would not surprise me in the least that once the new owner comes on board heads start to roll. Who do you think is the first to go? Personally, I think most if not all the staff is gone by the end of the season if not sooner. Hopefully this team rises from the ashes after this nightmare of a season and the new owner can infuse some talent into the franchise.

We'll most likely do something stupid and win a few games. Go fucking figure.

We'll probably beat either Oakland or KC. And if we could steal one the Pittsburgh game at home I'd be happy.

2-14. #1 Overall pick. Just what I want to see.

there are a lot of teams that are going to be total dumpster fires by the end of the year. whether or not cleveland can parlay that into a few wins and the proper draft position in order to maximize value remains to be seen. but kc and the jets need qbs in the worst way. carson palmer is about done in oakland. we don't know how long tampa will roll with C. Thomas Howell from Soul Man at qb. and despite their incredible defense, seattle isn't setting the world on fire even with a phantom win, and pete carrol loves him some qb's.

Christ....

I hope people can recognize this franchise is a good 3-4 years away from being competitive at the earliest. The offensive line is average even with Joe Thomas, and Alex Mack. Schwartz has been a turnstile thus far but maybe he gets it together, but our guards are terrible.

Our linebacking core is pretty horribole, especially when you consider D-Qwell will be pretty much useless by the time this team can be good. Scott Fujita sucks, and always has. An awful signing the day he became a Brown. There are some young guys showing glimmers, but nobody you can hang your hat on.

Weeden has shown some signs of being good, but dude is 29. To keep that in perspective, think about how much NFL and playoff experience Joe Flacco has at this point in his career. Flacco is 2 years younger than Weeden. Weeden will prove to be a waste of 5 years assuming the Browns give him extended time to be the franchise QB. Also keep in mind, our 29 year old rookie QB is also performing 4th amongst rookie QB's this year that are at least 6 years younger than him.

I don't know...I don't see the optimism...I think this roster is a joke, especially when you consider where we are player by player accross the NFL. Have we improved our talent? Maybe, I guess....but we sucked to begin with. Just saying we are the youngest team in the NFL isn't proof we are set-up to be playoff bound in the future.

We have one legitimate cornerback for the future. We have 1 legitimate safety for the future. We don't have any decent linebackers for the future. Joe Thomas seems to be losing his elite status. Alex Mack is good but he's a center. Evan Schwartz might be a legit starting RT in the NFL. Our wide receiving core is still easily the worst unit in the NFL and our best receiver was a running back for most of his career.

I love Richardson and the ability he brings. I just, unfortunately see, a MJD-like career where he plays for an irrelevant franchise a majority of his career. The drafting and management of this franchise since coming back to the NFL have really been horrific. And the worst part is, with the way the NFL is structured, a city like Cleveland has an opportunity to compete if they make the right decisions. But they prove every draft and off-season, they are incapable of making smart moves.

What?! SUPER BOWLZ, FUCKUZ!!!!11!!!!!!!!eleventy-Lombardi!11!!11!!

In all seriousness, I agree with you to a point, but I think you underestimate some of the young talent we have on defense. We have a couple of kids on the line and a couple at LB that have shown some promise, so I don't think we're as bad there as you think. We are awful (sans Haden) in the backfield, so we need corners. And a safety. Badly.

On offense, Richardson is a manbeast, and we have like 500 TEs, so if we had a WR1, a real one, then guys like Cribbs and Mass and even Norwood could do some things. What they need to do is stop taking fucking projects. I mean, I am not giving up on Gordon, but he looks like he could easily be Carlton Mitchell V2.0. Great body, not much else. We need a legit guy. Someone who can torch a defense right away, on any play. All the other guys would have more comfortable roles if we had that.

The OL line also needs help. I don't see it with Schwartz...he looks like he has move to guard like Leonard Davis written all over him. Of course if they did that, Lavao could go away and then we would only really still need a RT.

Oh, and we have no depth basically anywhere, so no one can get hurt  But that's the biggest glaring weakness with teams that are shitty trying to upgrade...you can only do it so fast.

Bottom line I think we are 3-4 good players away from being a 7-9 to 9-7 type of team...but they are 4 very important players (RG/RT, CB2, WR1, FS) that are damn important and very hard to find.
