Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

I don't believe in trading just for the sake of trading and accumulating more picks...it depends on whom you are passing up on and whether it makes sense for the future. Blackmon looks like a beast but if he can't run routes he is of no use in the WCO where it is all about routes and precision. He may score a 2 on the Wonderlic at the combines...who knows.

If they can trade down and get additional picks along with someone like Richardson it is a home run. I don't think anyone here can question Richardson's abilities and what he could bring to the Browns.

Also, the acquisition of the additional picks would give the Browns much more leverage and maneuverability in this draft which could be used for trading up and acquiring someone like Floyd who has at least played in a pro-style offense under the Fat-Man.

so, they should take a shitty player just to say they drafted a "playmaker"? if it looks like blackmon is going to have dez bryant or michael crabtree type problems running routes, then there is no way a WCO team should think about taking him.

a great example is marty gilyard from cinci. at the senior bowl he didn't even know what half the routes were because he played in the same type of gimmick spread offense.

Has an actual scout or other draft observer said that Blackmon can't run routes, or are we just running with BuckinDayton/hatehineygate/king rhabuf's opinion on this?

Don't forget the Dez Bryant relation. They went to the same school! Nevermind Dez is a dumbass.

Blackmon seems more well-rounded. Again, if most everything checks out, he's the type of player the Browns need. RB is such a plug-and-play position nowadays.

If Blackmon is the real deal that will be determined at the combines or individual workouts and if the Browns want to get him they will have to pull some sort of trade with St. Louis in order to get him. St. Louis does not need a QB so they will not be interested in Griffin. The Rams need WR help .

The Browns can get a WR with Atlanta's pick or through free agency. I would hate to get into a bidding war just to move up a couple slots to get Blackmon when we have so many other needs.

If the Browns are indeed serious about improving their team next year, they have over $30 million in salary cap money to spend. That ought to buy them something.

I am in favor of keeping Colt for next season and see what he can do with improved talent around him.

The Rams (not unlike the Browns) need all kinds of help. While I can see why a guy like Blackmon would be attractive to them, but they could also use help on the OL or in their run defense. They traded for Brandon Lloyd, they may be content to address WR with a later pick because of that.

FWIW, the one recent mock draft I saw had them picking an OT. It went Luck, OT, OT and had the Browns passing up Blackmon and Richardson to take Griffin. I'm sure there are other mocks that have Blackmon going just about anywhere but No. 1 though.

Regardless, we should probably wait to see who St. Louis hires as its next head coach before making too many determinations about what they'll be looking to do.

I know they drafted Rodger Saffold a couple years ago and he's locked down that LT position with some good reviews, although he had to go on IR after 9 games this past season.

But, it'll be interesting to see what they do with that 2nd pick. Like you said, they need a lot of help. From a quick glance, I'd say they need help in the secondary and wide receiver.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them trade.

If Blackmon is available @ 4, I would take him. The kid is a game changer.

Now if Blackmon is not available @ 4, I would consider a trade down (w/Washington or Miami) for the right price (it would have to be pretty sweet (their 1st round and 2nd round picks at the min) or draft Richardson.

I had forgotten about Saffold.

I'm not saying he can't run routes but I think based on the offense that OSU runs and how that would translate to the WCO would be a concern. It will all work itself out at the combines and pre-draft workouts.

Besides, this is the Browns...there might be a Mike Junkin sitting out there to be picked at #4 that could be the difference maker.

I mentioned that they were different players, but where a player went to school says at least something about what his strengths and weaknesses will be. So far Dez Bryants lack of route tree experience has been rang up to the offense they ran at Okie Light, which if you watch Blackmon-he pretty much runs go routes and bubbles 2/3 of the time.

They have spent more than a few top picks on offensive and defensive linemen recently. Jason Smith is a consussion case and will likely be moved to OG so I could see them take an OT. They really need a DT.
