Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

Only problem I have with Blackmon really isn't his fault but... The clowns have a bad history of infections gone wrong... It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for the browns to draft him then him come down with a nice case of staph infection in that leg... Bye bye another first rounder

He can't be drafted until April. If the infection isn't cleared up by then it's not the Browns' fault.

With the No. 4 pick, they're guaranteed to have at least one of Luck, Blackmon, Richardson or Griffin available to them. At the moment that's my order of preference, with Luck of course being a total pipe dream unless they bundle some picks to move up to the top spot (not happening and DO NOT WANT). The point is, at first glance it looks like the Browns haven't played their way out of a useful draft pick for once, and that's not even accounting for the idea that one or more of the teams ahead of them might pick a player from outside that pool (to get an OL for their team, for instance).

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. A lot will change between now and then. Some of those guys may lose some of their luster, somebody else may pop up. More likely, the Browns will fall in love with some guy that makes us all scratch our heads, to the exclusion of a sure-fire guy at a thin position.

If RG3 is still sitting there at #4 the Browns are going to get a lot of inquiries on the pick. Will be interesting to see if another trade is in the cards.

If Blackmon is still there they had better not trade down. If he's not but Richardson is, I'd consider it if I were them though.

Order of preference with #4:

Blackmon
Richardson
Griffin

With the pick from Atlanta (based on availability and who the Browns pick up with the #4):

Monte Ball
MIchael Floyd
Vontaze Burfict

If the Browns don't start drafting playmakers, it will be another long season and to top it off there are not too many playmakers available in FA that would consider coming to Cleveland...unless the Browns wish to break the bank.

Here is a scenario I could possibly see playing out. The Browns pick 4th and none of the other 2 teams (Rams and Vikings) will be thinking QB after Luck is gone. Although RG3 is talented and a fine young man, I'm just not sold on him. I don't see us taking him there and my pick would be Blackmon first. If he is gone my pick is Richardson. However, I think that you can still get Trent in the 6-10 range. I think that a team like Washington or Miami who drastically needs a QB could get antsy and want to take the second best QB on the board. I could see us trading with Wash (6) or Miami (8) and picking up a draft pick or two. It wouldn't be a huge trade down like in previous years and we could still get our guy. I'm tired of the big trade downs only to get nice, durable players. It's time to hit a homerun and I think that Richardson is the guy. It would only be a little move down and we still take an impact player from day 1. Just my opinion but I think it could happen.

Two things are working against the Browns though. 1, both teams directly in front of them don't need a QB and most everyone thinks that Cleveland needs a QB ( I am at least willing to give Colt 1 more season). A team like Wash or Miami could trade up to 2 or 3 to get RG3 and take away a trade possibility with Cleveland. We would probably be able to then take Blackmon which would be OK in my opinion. The second thing that hurts us is having a team like Tampa behind us. They aren't looking to go QB because Freeman has been pretty good aside from this past year. This puts no pressure on Washington to trade up because if the Browns don't take RG3, then he will fall to the Skins. Tampa is sitting pretty for a trade with a team that needs a QB. Tampa is in a much better position at this point than we are in my opinion.

Why again do people not want Blackmon? He sure looks like a playmaker to me - definitely moreso than Posey.

For me personally I would like to have him, but not where he is going to have to drafted. I know they are different players, but the problems Dez Bryant is having right now with running routes other than go and bubble is something I could see happening with Blackmon coming that Mickey Mouse offense. Great player, just not sure on the price tag.

He's a beast...would look good in a Brownie uniform, but I still like Richardson too. I still remember when we passed on LT.....

Would love to have richardson too, but I am starting to thin they will look into an all purpose back like McCoy in Philly.

Price tag is MUCH cheaper... this year than in years past... at this point with the cap rules in place I believe it wont kill the team to take that risk.

If they can get a couple of 1st rounders like last year and an additional pick, I don't care who is sitting at #4. I know this team needs playmakers but it also needs an infusion of overall talent and depth. I do like the scenario of Washington trading up and maybe taking Richardson with that pick. Snyder is the new Al Davis so who knows what may happen.

Ordinarily, I feel this way, and for example I was completely on board with trading out of the Sanchez FUBAR of 2009. However...eventually, picks have to equate to impact players to field a competitive team, and with some of the guys at the top of this draft like Blackmon, now is a good time to make that happen. Trading high picks for more picks will eventually turn us into the Montreal Expos or Pirates, if we aren't there already. We need guys who people want to pay to see that can make plays...not more picks.

Everyone in the Browns organization needs to start talking up Griffin every chance they get. They need to get Washington to pull a Winslow to move up to get a player that would be there at 6. I would love it if they could get Washingon's 1 and 2 for Griffin and then end up with Richardson anyway. If someone goes full retard and trades up to get Griffin before the Browns that probably means that Blackmon will fall to them at 4 and they can use the Falcons pick on a RB. If Washington or Miami call the Browns bluff and Blackmon is off the board at 4 I'd draft Richardson and be happy.

so, they should take a shitty player just to say they drafted a "playmaker"? if it looks like blackmon is going to have dez bryant or michael crabtree type problems running routes, then there is no way a WCO team should think about taking him.

a great example is marty gilyard from cinci. at the senior bowl he didn't even know what half the routes were because he played in the same type of gimmick spread offense.
