Within a report notifying the public about a charity event being held this weekend, Steve Doerschuk of
the Canton Repository brought up a very intriguing idea: namely, that the
Cleveland Browns may be interested in signing
Terrell Owens once the league business year begins."General Manager Tom Heckert has sent mixed signals about how aggressively he will chase free agents, but it is just now becoming clear who those free agents will be and what kind of money they will command," Doerschuk revealed. "One alluring Browns target could be 37-year-old wide receiver Terrell Owens. Heckert was with the Eagles when Owens helped lead them to a Super Bowl. Holmgren has always had a soft spot for older receivers. He was
Jerry Rice's last head coach, when Rice turned 42."
Two scribes from the Cleveland Plain Dealer -- Tony Grossi and Terry Pluto -- have indicated that adding a wide receiver
is not amongst the team's highest priorities in free agency. Nevertheless, Owens would not be as expensive as some of the other options, and was quite productive in 2010 prior to his season-ending injury. The wild card here is
the surgery that the WR underwent this offseason, and how soon he'd be back on the field; then again, this could drive the cost down for his services in 2011.
