Time for the 2010 season thread, should be interesting with all the pressing issues...Holmgren, potential new GM, Mangini, Cribbs, the QB situation...

Holmgren is an offense guy. I like sticking with the defensive scheme, hopefully with upgraded talent and let Mangini be the HC. Holmgren can pick out the new GM and OC and run his offense.

I think Mangini staying or going had less to do with last season (though the 4 wins at the end help) and probably more to do with Holmgren basically telling him what he himself heard in Seattle...you're the coach, I'm the boss, you concentrate on coaching and take orders from me, and we'll take your input on personnel, but we'll make the final decisions. I imagine his attitude towards this was good enough that Holmgren was satisfied he was OK with division of duties.

Sort of a surprise to me but I also thought that he would have been terminated as soon as Holmgren hit Cleveland if he were going to be fired.

In reference to article above, it says that most assistants will be retained. I guess we will have to wait and see about the OC.

Kind of surprised that Mangini is staying. That might just mean that there were no better alternatives. Next year should be interesting if the team doesn't progress.

New OC would be great. And some good offensive players.

Zorn to teach Quinn the west coast, and a new OC with WC experience. IMO

I too am surprised by Mangini staying, however if he, Holmgren and the new GM can put their egos aside and work together we could actually find ourselves with a solid organization for once instead of the dysfunctional mess we have had to deal with for the last ten years.

Keeping Mangini gives Holmgren the next year as a grace period: Holmgren can say (rightly) that a new coach deserves at least a second season to prove himself, and if Mangini blows another season, he can fire him without qualms and bring in his own guy; if Mangini turns it around, all is well and they haven't lost a full year to rebuilding from the ground up.
