Cleveland Browns (2008 Season)

Okay, I know that I have been calling for Quinn to start but I think starting him this Thursday is a little unfair to him since this will be an extremely short week for preparation. I think he will at least generate some enthusiasm in Brown Stadium and hopefully in the team. If he does not perform that well this Thursday, that is fine with me as long as he gets some more starts in the following weeks. Anderson has played half the season and now Quinn can play half the season and then Savage can make his decision. I hope everyone does know that Savage determines the 53 man roster and not Romeo.

I agree, but they're 3-5 and this isn't about Brady Quinn...this is about saving jobs (Crennel and Savage both rumored to be on hot seat). This move, coming into a short week, says DA is blowing the season indirectly. They won't come out and say it, but if they wanted to do what was best for Brady and the team, they would wait until after Thursday night.

The problem with waiting until after Thursday night is what if Anderson does another Jekyll and Hyde performance and throws for over 300 yards. You would almost have to start him the following week or the entire organization would like like idiots. More so than they do now.

In my opinion, Savage should be on the hot seat. He has made all of the personnel moves and has really done some marvelous drafting. If Lerner had not given him all that money to spend on free agents, Savage's draft record what looked like Dwight Clark/Carmen policy:!

Savage is not on the hot seat IMO. Has drafting has been solid. His pick ups of Rogers and Steinbach as FA's have been excellent. The issue is that they have to find one out of the two QB's who can play. DA is too inconsistent thus far. Hot or cold. No in between. Let's see what BQ can do. With 4 years left on each contract after this season, both Crennell and Savage will be back.

I disagree....Crennel is through unless the Browns finish the season on a MONSTER win streak. He has proven he has an elementary understanding of the "inside" parts of the game. Name the last coach to be successful in the NFL, without any understanding of how to manage the clock.

I think Savage is safe, and the rumors on his future are from outside of the organization. Keep in mind Savage thinks VERY HIGHLY of the talent he has assembled in Cleveland. Last year, he made a comment that the Browns have as muchtalent as anyone in the NFL....to which Colin Cowherd dedicated half of a show making fun of Savage.

Anyways, at these crossroads, scapegoats are created (Anderson) and everyone starts looking out for their own job.

I think he is too. I was just telling the other guy that if Crennel stays, nothing will change.

I'll honestly be shocked if they win another game this year. They very obviously quit on the field yesterday and throwing Quinn to the wolves isn't going to fix anything.

Luckily for Browns fans, the Broncos will be minus Champ Bailey and Champ's brother Boss (starting OLB). Add that to the fact that the Broncos have a terrible run defense, and I think Quinn could have a pretty good game.

Unfortunately, the Broncos have Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. Marshall is currently the best WR in the NFL and Eddie Royal is arguably the best rookie WR. If Cutler is on, the Broncos are going to put up some points..

Denver is also without RBs Andre Hall and Michael Pittman. Pittman was the starter, and was looking pretty solid this year. Last I heard was that Selvin Young was questionable.

I'm surprised Crennel can muster up enough energy to get to his spot on the sidelines before the game.

The problem with D.A. is, as someone already stated, he may go off for 300+ and 2 TD's against Denver, or else 126+ and 2 INT's, if he got the start. Quinn could possibly also do the same, but his next snap will be the 9th in his career. I guess we were looking for some margin for error. Apparently Cleveland is actually where expectations go to die.

If Braylon "I'll catch 17 touchdowns just for you, Michael Phelps" Edwards catches the deep pass when it was 27-27, Cleveland wins that game and Anderson starts this week against Denver.

Good luck, Brady. Rarely will you get help from all 10 teammates on a given play.

Brown bench QB Anderson, switch to Brady Quinn

By TOM WITHERS
AP Sports Writer
BEREA, Ohio ? Here's a switch: The Cleveland Browns dropped Derek Anderson. The inconsistent Pro Bowl quarterback, whose production this season has been slowed by dropped passes, was benched on Monday by the Browns, who will start popular backup Brady Quinn on Thursday night against the Denver Broncos in hopes of turning around a disappointing season.
The surprising and unexpected swap was announced Monday by the team, just hours after coach Romeo Crennel said he had no plans to make a change.
On Sunday, Anderson threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown in the final minutes of a 37-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The pick prompted Browns fans to begin chants of "Brady! Brady!" for Quinn, the former Notre Dame star who has thrown just eight passes in two seasons.
Those fans are getting their wish.
A team spokesman said Crennel and Quinn would not be available for comment until Tuesday.
Earlier, Quinn was asked for his reaction to hearing fans scream his name.
"We lost the game, really that's all that matters," he said. "That's something in the NFL, everyone always loves the backup. That's just how it is."

Quinn debuts on Thursday Anderson gets benched after 37-27 loss to Ravens
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sports writer

Published on Tuesday, Nov 04, 2008
BEREA: Brady Quinn's NFL career began with a long wait, a free-fall to No. 22 in the first round of the draft that enabled the team he rooted for growing up in suburban Columbus to make a trade to get him.
The former Notre Dame star's patience was further tested when he sat on the Browns' bench for 24 games, all but one behind Derek Anderson.
Quinn's wait will end Thursday, when he makes his first start in a nationally televised home game against the Denver Broncos (4-4). The Browns confirmed the switch Monday evening after Anderson led the team to a 3-5 record.
Quinn will debut against a Broncos' defense ranked 29th in the league going into Monday night. The Broncos have lost three in a row and four of their past five.
Center Hank Fraley, speaking on his weekly radio show on WMMS, said he learned the news while picking up his kids from school when he received a text message from Anderson.

Jurevicius eager to recover, play in '09 Receiver says he's determined to return to team after seventh knee surgery. He refuses to retire
By Marla Ridenour
Beacon Journal sports writer

Published on Tuesday, Nov 04, 2008
BEREA: Even as he faces the seventh surgery on his right knee this year, Browns receiver Joe Jurevicius purposely takes the long way to Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sundays so he can find his motivation to go on.
He must follow part of the same route his family did coming from their Lake County home when he was a kid, past the municipal lot, past the rowdy tailgaters, some wearing his number on their jersey. After 11 NFL seasons and at age 33, he concedes that he's a sentimental, emotional guy and the parking lot scene tears him up inside.
''It drives me insane,'' Jurevicius said. ''When you see No. 84s out there, when you see the smoke from the barbecues, or people fighting, that's what I miss. I don't want to give up. When I hear a fan wish me luck and encouragement when I'm coming out of the tunnel to cheer on the Browns, that's more fuel.''
There's also the inspiration provided by his daughters, Caroline, 4, and Ava, who turns 2 in January.
''I don't want them to see me give me up,'' Jurevicius said. ''I want to walk off the field wearing an orange helmet, with one daughter in one arm and one daughter in the other.''
