Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

Why do some of u think that letting anderson go for some draft picks is a good thing. It was his first year has a starter and we almost mad it to the playoffs. He is are best option at that position. We should shop Mr. QUINN around for some picks. U can't win with out a quality QB. We just need to up grade the defense.

Quinn doesn't have value right now. I would trade Quinn in a second if someone would give me a top 10 pick for him. I hated drafting Quinn as much as anyone, but he has looked good every time he has been on the field and I think the Browns O probably wouldn't lose much if Quinn was the QB rather than Anderson. If they did pick up good draft picks for Anderson it would probably improve the D enough to counteract any dropoff that you would have from Anderson.

PS- Pay more attention in English class.

they likely will offer him a new contract, whether or not he takes it is another thing....

shopping Anderson now won't work. The Browns need to offer the restricted qualifying offer (something like $2.5 million) to get anything.....

They didn't draft Droughns....
They didn't? I could have sworn that was who they picked Draft before last.. But again my memory may be faulty so...

Sorry my writing is bad. Quinn has some value like maybe 2nd or third round. For u to think their wouldn't be a drop off with Quinn though is a little delusional.

Or, just maybe Chud has a very good system and a QB who didn't throw behind recievers and at their feet would do BETTER!

Also...this is a good read...I found KW2's comments interesting....

A few feet away, tight end Kellen Winslow seemed to side with Quinn.
"We drafted the guy," he said. "He's probably going to play. Derek's a great guy, but that's just the way this business works

ESPN - Browns have difficult decision to make with breakout QB star Anderson - NFL

Someone told me that Parcels has been mentioning Anderson and that he'd be willing to give up picks to have a Qb of his talent.
He certainly wouldn't be willing to give up their overall #1 for Anderson, would he?

If that happens look for Miami to trade the top pick down, then move for Anderson. I cant see giving up a first overall and potentially a third with all the holes the team needs to fill.

Im sure that will depend on Parcell's opinion of John Beck and whether he thinks he can get a potential QB in later rounds.

Id much rather he went for DL or OL in the first and look to CBs and Safetys in the later rounds and ignore QB because its not even in the top 5 needs I see on the team right now.

Statistics tell the story

I guess I don't understand why many of you guys/girls do not think Quinn will be a "good" professional QB. Anderson was not a very good QB in college. It would be interesting to know how many of you who are bashing Quinn had ever heard of Anderson while he was playing at Oregon State. He was very up-and-down even in his college career and in my eyes he has been up-and-down with the Browns this past season especially against Oakland, Arizona, New England, and yes, even Cincinnati.

Maybe it would be nice to sign him to a long-term contract but I still would like to see what Quinn could do if he played with the same lineup on offense that Anderson played with this past season. I think we should tender him and if someone makes a decent offer that would get us into the first round along with another draft pick that him go. He is not the next Brian Sipe. He is a QB with a rocket arm and that's about it.

Against five teams who had a combined record of 24-56 Anderson threw 15 TDs and had a QB rating of 122.5. Against the 10 other teams that he played against he threw 14 TDs, 16 INT's, and had a QB rating of 68.57. If there were not for the Cincinnati game, his QB rating would be in the low 70s instead of the low 80s. Let's not forget, he also played against some of the worst defenses in the NFL.

You've obviously spent little time reading up on what Anderson did as a Beaver. Wiki sums it up best:

Derek Anderson (American football) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anderson is the second player in Pac-10 history to throw for over 4,000 yards in a single season, setting an Oregon State Beavers football record at 4,058 yards in the 2003 season. He also ranks second in the Pac-10 for career touchdown passes, at 79 (also an Oregon State record). He is the 6th person to ever throw for 10,000 yards in a career in the Pac-10, and holds the Oregon State record for career passing yards at 11,249.

He also led the team to an 11-1 record in 2000 and won the Fiesta Bowl.
He was 2-1 in Bowl games with a 27-11 collegiate record.

And this has what to do with the cost of tea in China? There are tons of good/great quarterbacks who weren't heard of in college. And there are tons of good/great college quarterbacks who were shit in the pros.

He was a successful college quarterback.

I could give a shit about who the Browns decide to go with, but try better to not present disinformation about DA as a collegiate quarterback.

things I think about DA

1. This season doesn't happen without him. 10-6 was beyond just about everyone's expectations.

2. He's a restricted FA. either the Browns tender him the max contract for a restricted QB or they let him go entirely. Any team that matches the contract gives up a 1st and 3rd rounder. There won't be any shopping around in all likelihood.

3. I think DA has shown enough in both college (over 10,000 yards passing) and in the NFL in just a bit over 1 year experience to warrant another shot. I posted it earlier, but his stats are either comparable or even better than most of the mainstay QBs in the NFL right now were at the age of 24 and at the relative experience level DA brings. If DA was a bit older than yes maybe cutting him loose would make more sense, but hell he's still just learning the NFL game himself.

boy oh boy don't I wish the Browns Front Office hadn't panicked last draft and traded out of the first round this year. Looking at the stud RBs and D-lineman in the draft this year hurts a bit.

One thing about DA concerns me, and it reared its ugly head at the end of the year...decision making. He threw a lot of interceptions, both as a pro (so far) and in college.

I agree, you don't even need to look back on his college career. This season's success was the function of a number of things: soft schedule, new offensive system, better offensive line, and (yes) stability at QB. Next year, the schedule gets tougher and opponents will have plenty of time to break down the film and scheme against the Brownies. I see the team taking some baby steps back no matter who is playing QB, especially if the D is not improved. If anyone is willing to give up that 1st and 3rd rounder, it's a no brainer. I'd take any serious offers for DA that could lead to a much needed upgrade of the DL. The only way this team makes the playoffs next year is if the D gets substantially better as they are not going to be able to out gun most the teams on their schedule next year.

Now look at Romo last year, 19 TDs and 13 picks (in fewer games) and while he played better defenses, he also arguably had better coaching. 9 of those came in only 4 games and he had a QB rating of 45 in one game. Then this year he had 8 picks in only 2 games. Young QBs have issues. Man look a Leinart. He looked afraid to let go of the ball until he got knocked out for the year.

Browns fan mellow, but he blames Sorgi

By Sean McClelland

Heard from my friend Greg the other day. He lives in New Jersey, but he grew up in Columbus and I consider him the voice of rational Browns fans everywhere.
He was upset but not suicidal when his team failed to make the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.

"It's OK that they got burned," he said. "They weren't going to win the Super Bowl this year. 10-and-six is a great achievement and next year they'll be hungry as hell."
Unlike some Browns fans, Greg remembers what people were saying before the season.
They were saying 6-10 or 7-9 tops. They were saying head coach Romeo Crennel was on the hot seat, that instead of a sweet embrace from a fetching female sportscaster at season's end he figured to get the boot by Week 6.
