This thread reminds me of the good old days.

- Dummy posts something dumb and thinks they are just smarter than everyone else.
- Mob calls the dummy out for the dumb post.
- Dummy can't believe that people are giving him crap and tries to defend his position.
- Hilarity ensues.

With the possible exception of the Quinn trade Savage has done a much better job than his predecessors. BTW if we could go back in time to 2004, hire Savage as the GM, and force him to pick the best OL we would have ended up with Robert Gallery. I think I'll stick with Joe Thomas. In fact the only player the Browns passed on in the 2004 draft that I would trade the Soldja for now is Roethlisberger. Hopefully I'll end up looking back on the Quinn pick like the KW2 pick. Hate it for the first couple years and then be happy with it. The only thing Savage could have done better in 2005 is pick a RB #1.

it was stupid in that detroit was never going to take winslow, and, cleveland had sean jones pegged in the 2nd anyway. so, it would be getting their 3rd and 5th round picks back.

BEREA Ryan Tucker got a sneak peek in practice.

Tucker, who has protected NFL quarterbacks for 10 seasons, said before the Browns preseason opener that Antwan Peek is one of the best-looking pass rushers he has seen.

?He?s amazing,? Tucker said. ?He?s got the whole package.?

Yet Peek was underwhelming in four seasons with the Texans. He packed for Cleveland after producing 10 career sacks and 110 tackles.

In his first game as a Brown, fans got that glimpse Tucker was talking about.

He's back

Former No. 1 pick Tim Couch's last regular-season game for the Browns - or any team - produced a 22-14 win over the Bengals on Dec. 28, 2003. Bidding to make the Jaguars' 53-man roster, Couch ran two third-quarter series Saturday.

After two handoffs, Couch threw a 12-yard completion to rookie Mike Walker. Couch came back to earth on the next play, getting sacked by Dolphins rookie Steve Fifita for a 10-yard loss. On third-and-23, he dumped off a pass for a 1-yard loss.

Couch began his second series on his 3. After a run gained nothing, he threw incomplete deep over the middle. A pass interference on a short incompletion bailed him out, but on second-and-13, Couch misfired a short pass, then was sacked to end his night.

It's a long way back to the penthouse.

NFL BOSS IN BEREA NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (left), with Cleveland General Manager Phil Savage, spoke Thursday about the state of the Browns and the Michael Vick case.

BEREA NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had just finished an interview with writers covering the Browns. No one remembered his predecessor, Paul Tagliabue doing this.

?He?s smooth,? someone said.

That wasn?t often said of the lawerly Tagliabue?s comments, when he did make them.

Goodell, 48, grew up in the spotlight, son of a U.S. senator. He has been NFL commissioner for almost a year, having taken over for Tagliabue on Sept. 1.

He seems comfortable in a crowd. He didn?t hesitate during Thursday?s Browns practice when former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar led him to the gallery ropes to meet and greet fans.

BEREA Kevin Shaffer loved being a lefty.

?He wasn?t jumping up and down,? Romeo Crennel said, when the Browns asked him to be a righty.

Left tackles are the big cheeses among offensive linemen. The good ones are to pigskin what Emeril is to pork tenderloin.

The Browns were convinced Shaffer could be good when they offered him $36 million to jump from Atlanta in free agency before last season.

BEREA The Dawg Days are gone but shouldn?t be forgotten. Most high school football players preparing for the 2007 season weren?t born before Hanford Dixon last played for the Browns.

Still, this is the guy who dreamed up the idea of calling the bleachers ?The Dawg Pound.? He was a starter on three teams that reached AFC championship games.

Thus, when ?Top Dawg? talks about rookie Browns cornerback Eric Wright after watching this week?s practices, it?s worth a listen.

?I see a guy who is pretty much fearless,? Dixon said after breaking away from a chat with Wright. ?That?s what you have to have to be a good cornerback. He?s not afraid of the challenge.?

BEREA First Derek Anderson said it after this morning?s Browns practice, then Charlie Frye.

Both quarterbacks are in the dark as to who will start Saturday?s preseason game against the Lions.

This is certain: It won?t be Brady Quinn. So is this: The dark-horse candidate, a week removed from a 12-day holdout, wants in the race.

?Quarterbacks are greedy,?? Quinn said after a heavy work load in the first of two practices today. ?We want to get every rep.?? It sure is sounding as if Quinn is the people?s choice.

As Quinn stepped into an interview area at 11:05 a.m., dozens of fans behind the gallery ropes broke into a chant: ?Brady, Brady, Brady.?? Frye and Anderson didn?t get such treatment.

In his first practice after his first preseason game as a Brown, Lewis turned up the optimism with his own, subtle blowtorch.

Joe Thomas was swarmed by the media when he reported to Cleveland Browns training camp in July after signing a big contract, but most of the attention quickly shifted to quarterback Brady Quinn and his contract holdout.



BEREA, Ohio -- In the midst of Brady Quinn mania, No. 3 overall draft pick Joe Thomas is quietly smiling.
"I'm really happy that Brady is here," said Thomas, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive left tackle.
Thomas, the Cleveland Browns' first draft choice, signed a six-year, $42.5 million contract that carries heavy expectations. But the attention has been on Quinn.
That's fine with Thomas. When asked how he feels about sharing the spotlight now that the No. 22 pick has joined him in camp, Thomas was happy to talk -- about the quarterback.

According to a Cleveland radio station, the loser of the Cleveland Browns quarterback derby between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson will be traded or released

Looks like someone's been reading my posts. :tongue2:

From everything that I can gather. The loser of the Frye v. Anderson contest will not be on the team any longer. The Browns really like having Dorsey as a player-coach and an emergency QB.

Jason Wright doesn't come with the golden football pedigree of Brady Quinn. He doesn't grab headlines like Kellen Winslow Jr. He certainly doesn't have to shoulder a city's offensive expectations like Jamal Lewis.
But as Lewis' primary backup, Wright could become one of the Browns' most valuable assets.
With a lingering question mark at quarterback, new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski will have to rely heavily on the running backs this season -- a task that could take a toll on the eight-year veteran Lewis and bring Wright into the mix more often.

That's what coach Romeo Crennel hopes will happen tonight in the second preseason game against the Lions at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
"I think it's possible that a starter could come out of this game," said Crennel. "If it plays out the way we want it, then we'll announce a starter. If it's still close, we might have to alternate a little bit more."
