SENIOR BOWL

Offensive linemen draw Browns' interest

Friday, January 26, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Mobile, Ala. -- The Browns, along with the rest of the NFL, would have liked a look at Wisconsin left tackle Joe Thomas this week. But the 6-6, 310-pounder pulled out of Saturday's Senior Bowl late last week, a common move for players projected at the top of the NFL draft.

Winslow on NFLN today...
Backed up Frye against criticism. He thinks we need to work on OL and Frye will be alright. Said Shaffer had some knee issues last year. Talks about the possibility of him being a leader on the Browns, but says he needs to earn his respect from the vets first. Also picked the Colts, but downplayed Manning's role (ie: team effort).

I don't really agree with a lot of the specifics... but this is the kind of interview I expect from players. Definitely a step in the right direction.

Saturday, January 27, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot

Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns have hired former Houston Texans assistant Steve Marshall as their offensive line coach, a source close to the situation said Friday night.

Marshall as the OL coach? Is this really the guy to revamp our OL? The Texans gave up a league high 68 sacks the year that he was fired. Oh boy.

Has anyone else heard that Anthony Lynn has been hired to coach our RB's? He was the RB coach for Dallas the last 2 years. Now that would be a good hire.

Haven't heard anything about a new RB coach. Until a significant personnel upgrade is made, it really doesn't matter who is coaching the OL...seems to be the same situation he was in with Houston.

McManamon on the Browns

Skilled coaches lost in Browns staffing shakeups

Rosburg, Davidson walk; Atkins, Scherer take on new roles; GM Savage denies orchestrating changes

By Patrick McManamon

The Browns' offseason of change continues with four coaches not retained, two more departed, two retained in different spots and three hired.
Eventually the numbers will even out, but the people who left Cleveland voluntarily -- Jerry Rosburg and Jeff Davidson -- would not seem to be the guys Romeo Crennel wanted to lose.

Draft class seems to give Edwards a pass
Monday, January 29, 2007
BY Steve Doerschuk

Should Phil Savage have known better than to spend a No. 3 overall draft pick on Braylon Edwards?

The quick answer is yes. Wide receivers rarely go that high. Edwards looked pretty in making assorted big plays for Michigan but dropped enough balls to raise concerns. Some scouts didn't buy the party line that Edwards had matured by his final year in Ann Arbor.
