Clark Phillips III (CB Utah Utes)

Yup, because a SoCal kid is getting to be so excited to ski, hike and mountain climb(and hell be around girls in shape no matter where he goes)... :roll1:
The only reason I see Utah as an option is because of his brother, early PT and proximity for family
Salt Lake City is almost 700 miles from La Habra, CA. This is about the same distance as Jacksonville, Fl to Columbus. It is a one day drive (one hell of a long day) but if you're getting on a plane, 700 or 2000? Does it matter?

$125 (85 min) vs $198 (2 hr), and more flights to SLC. Otherwise it's comparable.

Fixed. Remember, he was there once. Beat Alabama in a bowl game if I recall. In fact, I remember a certain parody motivational poster "An SEC schedule doesn't prepare you for Utah"
He beat Pitt in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl (2004 season). That Utah team was the first "BCS buster."

Utah did beat Alabama, but it was under Kyle Whittingham in the 2009 Sugar Bowl (2008 season).

Yeah 700 is a long haul. I do that twice a year back to my parents house in Ohio. Since last September. 10:30 hours if traffic is good. Longest so far has been 12:30 and that's basically only with gas stops which is probably a lot less breaks than most people take on that long of a trip

Maybe I don't understand something based on the calendar, but wouldn't this be the type of situation where a player wouldn't want to feel rushed into signing this week and just wait till February? Being sure about something for months then questioning that just days before signing, it seems unwise to force a decision. I can't imagine it would affect enrolling early as that used to go on prior to the existence of the early signing period.

I think it's simply early enrollment is in January so he would have to make his decision around now to early enroll anyways

Glad you assume people in SoCal have no interest in the outdoors and you know his personal interests.

I don’t know his interests, but I can answer why some people might like SLC and what it offers over the flat Midwest.
I'm not talking about people in SoCal, I'm talking about an elite recruit who will spend more time on the field, in the position room and in the classroom than he would skiing or hiking. I honestly dont care what people in SoCal do.
And it's not like hed see much in Columbus either. Hes not a regular student. Ask justin fields how he enjoys Columbus...

First, take two seconds to actually read the statement to which I was replying. The OP was talking about the cities and what they offer. If your point is that it doesn't matter what city because he is an elite recruit won't take advantage or it, or its surrounding areas, then the OP wouldn't have needed to make the statement he did.

Second, lol at your revisionist statement. You specifically called him a SoCal recruit. If you didn't care if he is from SoCal, then you wouldn't have just said 'recruit' or 'elite recruit' like you did the second time.

Not a lot of positive vibes coming from this one.

Outlook has improved slightly, the Utah insiders aren’t giving them much of a chance following his visit.

Wiltfong thinks right now he flips, but that Ohio State can turn things. From Clark’s father:

"We'll have a family discussion, prayer, he really likes the Utes. He's still committed to Ohio State. More discussion today but a flip is definitely possible."

"Nothing matches Ohio State's legacy in terms of defensive backs and we knew this was a possibility and they lose coaches like (Nick) Saban loses coaches every year at Alabama. They're going to be a wonderful program no matter who they hire, or does he potentially be a program-changer at Utah and go in and make an impact right away. They use that term, not loosely, being a program-changing type recruit.

The elder Phillips added Clark's ceremony is actually Thursday, the second day of the Early Signing Period.

"I think he will know what he's going to do tonight or tomorrow."

Latest update at 247 from Biggins is a little more positive. Things *seem* to be trending in a positive direction.

I want him to stick with buckeyes just as much as the next guy but I’m not sure where the numbers came from but Cbus to San Diego would be a 5 hour flight if there were a direct fight. Maybe didn’t factor in the 3 hour time difference? Also not any direct flights that I know of, so pretty much a minimum of 6.5 hr travel time. Also for that price you’re probably flying Spirit as an overnight red eye or something.
