Cincy 37, Miami 13 (Final)

I totally understand - and a lot of it predates to early college bball games between our Bucks and the Cats - but since I don't have the privilege to be stationed in my beloved state, I still root for any team to look good on a national base.

Especially with so many players for UC being from Ohio, too.
I get how UC fans have rubbed OSU fans the wrong way. It happens. I realize Kelly will be gone soon. I realize BCS dreams will be gone soon. So, as an alumn, I'm going to enjoy the Cats success while I can. Hope not to piss off OSU fans while doing it, of course.

I guess what is irritating is that their fans not only strut about but that the press gives them attention.

Here are some facts:

Miami (Ohio) was at the 3 yard line when they were intercepted late in the 3rd quarter. If that had not happened, Cincy would have been in a 3 point game against an absolutely terrible team.

As the play-by-play (link) shows, they had their 1st string QB in there passing even in the last series of downs.

Cincy's SOS is about the worst of any ranked team. Their SOS rank is below 100. Their opponents are a combined 8-15.

All of this kind of tells you that a day of reckoning must come soon.

Cinci still has South Florida and Pitt on the road, Connecticut & WVU at home, plus a late season opportunity to get Zooked.

If the Bearcats get out of the regular season with fewer than two losses, I will be impressed.

If Cincy got zooked i would prolly giggle a little bit.

...and you damn well should! These are the best of times for UC football.

...and therein lies the rub. Buckeye fans are not unhappy to see UC find success. Buckeye fans are annoyed that (some) UC fans feel that it is necessary to slight Ohio State in order for that success to be more meaningful.

For all the (irrational) joint OSU/UC* fans out there....remember when Ohio State played NC State, Washington State, Texas Tech & various other teams?

Remember how all of those fans were convinced that their team was on the verge of greatness & that their success would continue indefinitely?

That's exactly how the rest of Buckeye nation sees UC right now. Enjoy the success while you can...because it is not going to last forever.

* - Please note that H&G and most of the rest of the joint fans here don't fall into the irrational category. :)

Joint fans being irrational? Never, man.

UC leapfrogged Ohio State in the AP poll, marking the first time since Nov. 21, 1951 that the Bearcats have ranked above the Buckeyes. UC is also the first team since 2004 (Bowling Green) to be ranked ahead of Ohio State.

Just when I thought UC refused to give any credit to OSU--they're now claiming that we've been ranked #1 since '04 (you remember, back when BG unseated us as the #1 team in the nation).

And how's BG doing just five years down the road? Or Fredo six years down the road after their Top 10 finish with Big Ben.

And I know the UC response will be that the Big East makes the difference. Really? A weak, newcomer conference that was cobbled together out of a basketball needs, almost fell apart when the ACC raided it and would fall apart tomorrow should the Big Ten make an offer to Pitt or Syracuse?

How are Rutgers and "The Ville":shake: doing just a couple of short years after their epic top 10 clash?

In 3 years, Brian Kelly will be gone, and UC will be a .500 team playing to 18K Thursday night crowds trying to make themselves trendy by putting "The Nati" on the front of their jerseys.

Yep, the Big East is a feeder conference for better coaching gigs...Petrino, Dantonio, DickRod. They'll soon be joined by Edsall and Kelly.

Actually, Kelly makes the difference. I have no doubt that he will leave when the Notre Dame job comes open.

I will say, however, that if the Big East does retain its BCS bid, UC will remain as a program that will be better than .500 because of the foothold it is gaining in keeping local talent Cincy area talent away from Michigan State, Indiana, Minnesota, UofL and UK...with, possibly, an occasional OSU target (Matt James?). Rick Minter started the process, Mark Dantonio carried the torch and brought a big time mentallity to the program and Brian Kelly brought his charisma and offense to Clifton...I'm not saying UC will be a top 10 team after Kelly leaves...I'm saying the pieces are in place to be a top 25-30 program, however...

at the end of the day, UC is STILL located in Ohio and there is a shit ton of talent to be had. I believe UC's next coach will be able to continue the trend started by Rick Minter and Mark D.

Two home games so far in 2009. Average attendance is about 31,500, only 90% capacity in a stadium that holds only 35,000 fans. This is with a team ranked in the Top 10. In 2008 things were moderately better: averaged 91% capacity.

Top 30 program? Get back to me when the home team fans show a little interest.
