I read an article about the utilization of Eifert vs being able to get the ball to Green, and, when healthy, Eifert was the more viable option. Obviously some factors come in to play, a huge one being matchups and drawing double teams. AJ has notoriously been double teamed his entire career. Another one being the new offensive coordinator who seems to be extremely gun shy throwing the deep ball to Green in hopes of keeping mistakes by Dalton to a minimum. Part of what makes the Dalton/Green tandem great is the deep ball. I'm not sure the new(ish) OC is the right choice moving forward. Adding another red zone threat type TE would go back to the project Cincinnati tried pulling off with Gresham and Eifert a few yeats back. If done properly, and you draft two quality handed players, it's an unstoppable tandem. Adding Howard would also allow Eifert to split out to give the defense a different look.
This is all assuming Howard is still there. Which a lot of mock drafts have him being taken a pick or two before the Bengals. For whatever reason, I feel this will be a secondary heavy top 10. That doesn't bode well for who I want in orange and black. Malik Hooker. I wouldn't normally wish any Buckeye the misery of being a Bengal, but Hooker can add an element to the defense they had with Reggie Nelson. Nelson also made Kirkpatrick a MUCH more useful corner by allowing him to take everything underneath, and Nelson taking everything over the top. I think Hooker could provide the same look, and help someone like Dennard find his footing in the rotation. I don't think Dennard is a bad CB, or a bust. Sure he hasn't performed up to this point, but losing a pro bowl safety certainly wasn't the best for him. The secondary has been a mess since losing Nelson. That's why I think if Hooker is there, you don't think twice about taking him. Even if Fournette or another top draft prospect drops to them.
If Ross is drafted before the Bengals, then I wouldn't want them drafting a WR until at least the second round. I think there will still be plenty of talent available then even. Curtis Samuel could even potentially be available then. If last year's draft proved anything, it's drafting players from Ohio State won't disappoint. They come ready to perform, and ready to make big plays as rookies. Homer or not, you can't go wrong drafting Lattimore, Hooker, Samuel, or McMillan in this draft.
