Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

Despite all the "progress" this organization has made, the ring of honor, the new uniforms, the indoor practice facility even the drafting of Joe Burrow, they remain the same fragile team they've been since their inception.

An important player gets injured. Do they redouble their effort and play harder? No, they crawl into a shell and hide. An important game against a divisional foe in prime time. Do they come out fired up and ready to kick ass and take names? No, they come out and stumble and bumble all over the field and look like a deer in the headlights.

When Marvin Lewis was coaching you could always count on at least twice a season the Bungles would show up (usually against an inferior team with a losing record) and look like a Chinese fire drill. Opposing players running free down field. Running backs that averaged 1.5 yards a carry suddenly having a 135 yard game and some perennial back up QB having a career day.

I hoped those days were gone with Lewis and his silly seasonal sayings (remember Just Keep Digging...?). But no, it's not a Marvin or a Mike Brown thing. It's a Bengal thing....period.

I honestly doubt they'll ever change. Ever.

All of this. Really thought Burrow would push us over the top, but even he's not enough to overcome the Bungling of the rest around him...a good team finds a way to win that game despite injuries, we didn't come close. Predictably Chubb gashed us but also everyone else on the Browns.

Glad we got our flash in the pan last year, that'll be the one I probably get for my lifetime.

Yes, that was a retro look back at how things used to be, post-Wyche. And I think the inequality Stefanski >> Taylor is well established. Taylor is bad news bears. Rarely is the team ever prepared for the first half. There is no excuse for not being prepared to beat the Browns.

But the Katie Blackburn Bengals are competant in the front office, focused on championships and now have sponsorship from Paycor after selling their soul. They will fix this. It might take until 2024 but they will figure out how to field a solid OL, how to beat the Browns and the franchise's best days are ahead. Even Tom Brady didn't win the AFC each of his first 10 years (did he??).

Mikey Boy finally went and did what everyone was begging him to do - dip into free agency and spend some bucks. The problem is, when you replace one o-line with a new one you have to account for time for them to learn to play as a unit. Burrow is still getting sacked at the same high rate as a year ago and that suggests to me that the line has learned to work together yet.

I expected some issues at first with the OL as they synced up and maybe somewhat lingering into this point of the season...especially when they don't play a snap in the preseason. However, the OL is an absolute dumpster fire and with 4 of the 5 being veterans, that is not excusable for what we paid to go get those guys. Then the rookie Volson is going to be good I think, but drafting Carman was just an awful mistake and they should have known better there. With so many OL that performed well elsewhere, we have to be looking at Pollack being on a very short leash as the OL coach...last year was understandable, this year it is not acceptable.

A likely major loss: Sources say #Bengals CB Chidobe Awuzie is feared to have suffered a season-ending knee injury in last night’s game and he’ll have an MRI today to confirm. The belief going in is a torn ACL.

Saw that...we're screwed. He was our only legit outside CB. Hilton is a stud in the slot, but at best we now have Apple and maybe Taylor-Britt at CB? Flowers got hurt but he's garbage even if he's in. Maybe you see Dax play CB some too? In any scenario, we're going to get torched in the pass game now. How we didn't trade for a CB before the deadline I don't know.

42-21 victory, but 35-0 was how close that game was. Complete annihilation.

5-4 now, same record as last year after a demoralizing 41-16 loss to the Browns (sound familiar, lol??). Stealers (sic) in 2 weeks with some momentum.

ETA: We have this.
