Cincinnati Bengals (official thread of False Hope 2015)

4-0 and still healthy..

This. We keep healthy and we're tough to beat. This was the case last year but we our roster looked like The Replacements, minus Shane Falco at QB. We have the pieces to be a very, very good team. IF HEALTHY. I know Dalton has yet to be under the lights and that is when he chokes, but he looks like a different player over the course of 4 games and has been absolute money. Green is still on another level. Eifert is a whole new element we have never had. Jones and Sanu are threats. The OL is doing a fantastic job. Hill/Gio is a deadly combo. The defensive line is deep and rejuvenated...Peko looks ready to be a Pro Bowler and Atkins/Dunlap are wreaking havoc. The LBs aside from Mauluga (who is playing well) are average but have Burfict coming back soon enough...and Hawk has been steady. The DBs seem athletic and fairly deep...Hall is playing well situationally in the slot. Huber is an absolute stud at punter and maybe the best in the NFL right now. We do need a new kicker though...love Nuge but he is not getting it done.

Overall, this team has me way more excited than any other Bengals team I have watched. I am not letting myself get too excited yet (false hope false hope false hope false hope), but there is some hope.

This week will be our first real litmus test. Home game still and not in prime-time, but against an elite pass D we'll be able to see how much of Andy's improvement is real vs. a mirage based on the caliber of the opponent. Tough to run the ball on Seattle. I do feel good about Hue Jackson's creativity at least, should put us in good looks most of the time.

Seattle's offense has looked like hot garbage the last few weeks although if Lynch is back this week that'll obviously be huge for them. We're 2.5 - 3 point favorites, which is basically the home field advantage so Vegas has us as even with Seattle on a neutral field... certainly wouldn't have guessed that 4 months ago but I'll take it at this point.

This week and next week (@Buffalo) will be tough but we should definitely be favored in at least 7 of the next 8 games after that, @Arizona being the only one I think we won't be favored in.

Agreed, first real test to our offense and really to the team in general, even if it is a home game during the day against a team with a short week. Fandom aside, the Green-Sherman matchup will be a treat. I think this is going to be an extremely close game either way.

And I am with you on the overall outlook. I would be pretty damn happy splitting the next two games considering what comes after that. Obviously I want to win both but realistically, splitting the next two would be huge big picture.

Tyler Eifert adds an element to this year's offense that the Bengals simply haven't seen. He slices through the middle of the field demanding attention from the secondary. They key in on him, they make you pay with AJ Green. If you key in on Green, and neutralize Eifert, Jones is there stretching the field vertically. And when all else is failing, Sanu steps up and gives you hard earned yards when he's called upon. By far the most talented offense I've seen from Cincinnati. If Dalton keeps his confidence up, this offense has shown they can make the big plays when needed.

I may sound like a broken record, but as long as this offense stays healthy, it's just as good as any other offense in the NFL. I saw Andre Smith got dinged up a bit, but came back in and performed pretty well (had a breakdown on a block one play in the late 3rd/early 4th).

The defense played well in their bend but don't break strategy. Nearly completely neutralized Graham. I know, I know, he's struggled all year long but hear me out, we've ALWAYS struggled against elite TE's (see Gronk last year or the year before). Really started getting to Wilson late in the game, which goes in line with what Paul Guenther has been praising with his 2 deep rotation on the defensive line.

Really happy with how they've performed through 5 games.

Awesome game. I almost stopped watching at one point but this offense is potent and can get us back into it. Agreed with @TooTallMenardo just a ton of weapons. And I keep forgetting that Burfict is back in a couple weeks, which will be a huge boost defensively. The big flaw I see right now is not consistently filling gaps and occasional lapses in LB pass coverage, which is Burfict's A game. Stay healthy and this could be a great season. Regardless, damn glad to 5-0...last time that happened, I was about 3 months old.
