Cincinnati Bengals 2014 Thread of Frustration

^^^ Perfectly said.

Dalton has to go. How do you give him a nice contract when he has proven NOTHING. So, so frustrating.

Andy Dalton had the worst game of his NFL career on Thursday.

Dalton remains an absolute train wreck on national television. He's now 2-9 in such games, including the playoffs.

Now the Bengals are at a crossroads. They signed Dalton to a six-year, $115 million deal before the season, though little of that contract is actually guaranteed.

Fortunately for the Bengals.

STFU Jeremy Hill.

Don't have any idea why we went away from Hill. Poor game plan, especially with how bad Dalton was playing. That being said, there wasn't a ton of separation created by our WRs either.

Dalton... some games he looks great, others he looks like a HS QB. Idk what to think anymore. I'm not quite sure that I'm ready to give up on him but I probably should be.

DL continued to poop in their own mouths last night. Just atrocious both in the run and rushing the passer. Beating a dead horse but still continues to limit the team.

Wanted to stop in and get the general consensus from our resident Cincy fans. I'm not sure what I saw last night. Your defense was pretty damn good the start of the season, especially up front.
I saw Peko getting blown off the ball quite a bit though.

I also am having a hard time judging if it was all Dalton or the offensive line played like a retarded cockroach on Ecstasy...? There are times (though limited I've seen) where he appears to be a very solid QB.
Last night, was not one of them. Since I'm at it, Greg Little... dear god. Has he been cut yet?

dLOLton only looks good against chumps that put no pressure on him. the moment there is any push back he folds like a cheap suit...or something like that

What I saw was the LBs failing miserably but that was to be expected...Burfict is the complete catalyst for this defense and without him healthy, this defense is bottom 10. Plus Mauluga is out and he actually plays well when healthy, particularly against the run. I saw the DL getting penetration often but the LBs were not hitting their gaps. Our LB corps last night consisted of two undrafted guys and a 4th round pick from a couple years ago that was cut by the Chiefs...in other words, what happened to them last night is exactly what I expected. Lamur is decent (one of the undrafted LBs) but the rest have not impressed me and Lamur is only good with Burfict and Mauluga on the field imo. The DL also has depth issues...at DT, Atkins is slowly recovering from an ACL injury, Peko is past his prime, we just got Thompson back last game, and God bless Still but he doesn't provide much. At DE, Dunlap and Gilberry are stud but behind them is senior citizen Geathers and an incredibly ineffective Hunt. Fully healthy it is a very good DL but they aren't fully healthy (nor is this entire team). The secondary really has no excuse but missing Leon Hall did not help.

On offense, it really is a combination of things. The OL is usually protecting Dalton but Newhouse failed miserably last night in the place of Andre Smith...he stood out in suck, but the rest of the OL underperformed as well. Then we have our #2 receiver and deep/TD threat Marvin Jones out for the season (think the Buckeyes without Devin smith), Eifert (who was going to be HEAVILY involved this year in Jackson's offense) has out been out since the 1st game and probably for the year, and a huge safety valve in Giovanni Bernard out. All Dalton has is a hobbled OL, AJ Green, Sanu, and Jeremy Hill right now...a decent defense leaves him no options and Cleveland wisely did that. None of Tate, Sanzenbacher, Little, etc. are anything to worry about. But at the end of the day, this team does not get the job done under the lights or in the playoffs...Dalton is the consistent variable of that problem and that is not going to change.

My issue with Marvin Lewis is his refusal to be honest with where this team is at. In his press conference today, he says the problem is "consistency"...really? You consistently sucked in every aspect last night. Dalton consistently missed open receivers and threw interceptions. The OL consistently missed blocks. The defense consistently could not get off blocks and missed tackles. We consistently allowed them to convert on 3rd downs. Literally nothing was done right and it could not have been much worse. The only positive was some spurts in the run game, which we abandoned.

Then I hear "we have to put this one behind us"...is that your fucking script Mike Brown hands you? Same shit was said after blowouts against Indy and NE. How about you let it resonate how poorly you have been playing and get pissed the fuck off about it. Then he sticks with the "it was one game" rhetoric, for both the team and Dalton. No, it was not one game...Dalton has blown it in every big game that is not Jacksonville or Tennessee at home in a day game. And it was not one game for the team...they are getting their asses handed to them in every single loss. You might think maybe what Lewis says to the team is far different than what he says to the media but based on player's reactions/performances, I don't think so.

I'm thinking that the Bengals really miss both Gruden (defensive) and Zimmer (defense). Neither Jackson or Guenther seem to be getting the "job done".

Cincinnati Bengals extend coach Marvin Lewis' contract through 2014

Lewis has not won a playoff game (0-3) in his nine seasons (69-77-1), but he has won two division championships—something only Paul Brown and Sam Wyche have accomplished with the Bengals.

The extension is a show of faith that owner Mike Brown believes Lewis can lead the Bengals to the next level.

“One thing hangs over my head,” Lewis said. “That’s to win a championship.”

Re: owner Mike Brown believes Lewis can lead the Bengals to the next level.

OR NOT....Just maybe some good assistants (like Gruden and Zimmer, etc.) have made Lewis appear to be a better coach than he actually is.

Bill Parcells once said: "You are what your record says you are". If that is true than Marvin Lewis (i.e. 95-89-2, 0-5 in the playoffs) is just at best an average or mediocre head coach.

I believe Lewis' contract just goes through this season. This will be his 12th season as the Bengal's head coach, at the end of the season just maybe it's time for Mike Brown to consider a head coaching change.
