I was really excited when the Bengals drafted Shipley, I'm even more excited now after seeing him the past 2 games

I see Gresham getting serious PT as well. Not because of his draft stock but because the Bengals have been searching hard the last few years for a solid, consistent TE to throw to - as much coverage has gone to high-speed WRs. While Shipley looks great, he wont unplant Ohcho and Owens as the one-two punch.

Also, fantasy owners: Edleman looks like another Wes Welker for the Pats - might want to pick him up if you can.

fat boy is practicing....hopefully he stays with it

After practicing for the first time since January on Tuesday afternoon, Bengals right tackle Andre Smith came off the practice fields at Paul Brown Stadium with an ear-to-ear smile and said he's "very confident" he’ll be ready for the Sept. 12 regular-season opener in New England.

“I’m alive, so it must have went pretty good,” said Smith, who said he did everything in the workout where he said he played second-team right tackle.

Offensive line coach Paul Alexander wasn’t as impressed when asked how last year’s No. 1 pick looked.

“It looked like he hasn’t been practicing,” he said and Smith agreed he is behind on his technique.

“ It was off,” he said. “A couple of cans of WD40 I should be all right.”

Head coach Marvin Lewis said he’s not sure if Smith is going to play Friday night at PBS against the Eagles.

Before Smith left the locker room for the field, head strength coach Chip Morton shook his hand and spoke to him and, why not? Morton and Smith have been hooked at the hip since the first day of training camp on July 28 when Smith arrived battling foot and weight issues.

With Morton, as well as assistant Jeff Friday and weight-room assistants Carlos Woods and Bill Zenisek overseeing his three workouts a day, Lewis let Smith hit the field. That now means he’s not eligible to be on the physically unable to perform list. It also means that he’s passed his conditioning test, according to Morton.

“He’s lost a significant amount of weight,” said Morton, who wouldn’t elaborate. “He has a ways to go. But from what we’ve seen in this three-week process, he’s been very committed and worked very hard.”

Published reports said Smith was in the 370-pound range early in camp, but he didn’t look that big Tuesday.

"I lost a few pounds," he said. "Overall the conditioning stayed about the same; they were really impressed with my conditioning."

Smith had to deal with February surgery to finish repairing the broken foot that knocked him out of the first 10 games last season. He missed all of the spring camps and hasn’t had a chance to work on his technique.

Last week, Lewis didn’t hide his disdain for Smith’s progress and threatened to put him on PUP to start the season if it didn’t get better.

“He’s being a coach trying to push me,” Smith said. “I had great motivation from Chip and Jeff and everyone in the weight room. Everything was hard.”

Morton gave Smith a daily 5:30 a.m. wakeup call to get that first of three sessions underway and that usually consisted of different kinds of conditioning. Same with the second. The third workout to end the day usually consisted of football activities, such as pushing a sled for intervals.

“Yes I do, indeed,” said Smith, when asked if his camp was harder than the other. "I was by myself for one thing. The football stuff was easier than the other stuff.”

Smith said after practice that that the foot felt "good," while he is still building up trust in it.

"Coming off surgery you have to build that trust up in your body parts," Smith said. "That's what I'm really doing right now."

If he's not ready for Friday night, his ’10 debut would come in Buffalo Aug. 28.

fat boy is suiting up and playing tonight

RT ANDRE SMITH: Smith may not be out there with the first group after just two days of practice, but it looks like he’s going to have to play a bunch because the Bengals are running out of tackles. Andrew Mitchell (knee) has already been ruled out and by the looks of backup tackle Anthony Collins hobbling on crutches Wednesday, he won’t be ready, either, because of a sprained ankle still getting evaluated. Behind the starters that leaves just Smith and Gabriel Manns.

the first team offense looked in sync in this game

Palmer actually threw deep and hit TO for a 43 yard pass that set up a TD

Benson was running well and physical

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E29ytyjjL48"]YouTube- Cedric Benson destroys Eagles FS Nate Allen[/ame]

offensive line having problems with holding and false start (Andre Smith didnt look very good, guess you cant expect much though since he only started practice this week)

Gresham is looking like the real deal, and it seems they want to get him the ball and not just using the TE as another olinemen like past Bengals teams

Pac Man looked good again

defensive line was getting good penetration, Tank Johnson especially.....id like to see Geno Atkins get some run against 1st stringers.....hes been beating against the 2nd and 3rd stringers, Dunlap had a nice sack hopefully he can provide some sort of production

overall it was an encouraging effort, the Bengals were noticeably more physical than the eagles (even though its preseason, I like seeing the physicality)

the main issues were the offensive line penalties and the kicking game, Rayner missed a 34 yarder on his only try......Nugent missed a 59 yarder at the end of the half (he would have had a shot from 52 earlier in the game but a false start was called on the Bengals) Nuge really hasent had much of a chance to show anything so far...... wouldnt be surprised if they dump both of them though and grab someone else if neither starts showing something

Smith was horrible in pass protection and had some mental mistakes. Yet he was a road grader in the run game. The kid has talent, just needs to get his head together.

Everything else looked good. One bad turnover and one that you really can't do anything about (unless you say Ocho should have caught it, but still an unlucky bounce). Yet they beat the Eagles in every phase of the game.

As for kickers, look for the loser of the Raven's battle to show up in Cincy. Yep, that could mean a return of Shayne.
