Chris Holtmann (ex-tOSU Bball coach, HC at DePaul)

For those who might question if OSU has always been a football school.

Since it was pre-Internet I will never find the supporting quotes for this story, but as this old man recalls reading, Fred Taylor - who replaced Floyd Stahl - got his first head coaching experience when Stahl was sent to Pasadena to coordinate accomdations for the football teams trip to the 1958 Rose Bowl. That's the HC of the basketball team doing admin work for the football team DURING basketball season.

Oh, you know whoever they hire isn't going to be good enough. A large segment of our fanbase seems to think 2006-13 Thad Matta is this program's baseline.
You mean that Fred Taylor (1959 - 1964) isn't the baseline?

Overall B1G Post Season
1959–60 Ohio State 25–3 13–1 1st NCAA Champion
1960–61 Ohio State 27–1 14–0 1st NCAA Runner-up
1961–62 Ohio State 26–2 13–1 1st NCAA Runner-up
1962–63 Ohio State 20–4 11–3 T–1st
1963–64 Ohio State 16–8 11–3 T–1st

That’s pretty wild.

With that said however, the state of Ohio produces a high number of talented players. Definitely potential to be an annual upper tier hoops program too.

CHRIS HOLTMANN REPORTEDLY “BLINDSIDED” BY OHIO STATE FIRING

A source close to the situation told The Athletic that Chris Holtmann was "blindsided" by his sacking and didn't get a chance to meet with his team before the announcement came.
