Chris Holtmann (ex-tOSU Bball coach, HC at DePaul)

YEESH! The Lantern's Sam Becker wrote about Chris Holtmann on Thursday. In a rare opinion piece from Ohio State's independent student newspaper, Becker called for a change of leadership for the Ohio State men's basketball team.

Damn. Never expected The Lantern to have an article recommending firing a coach. Congrats Holtmann, you're breaking a record after all.

Let's hope Jeff Goodman actually knows something and isn't just another "Sir Yacht".

PER THIS REPORT, HOLTMANN WILL BE FIRED TODAY (CONFIRMED PER JEFF GOODMAN)

Looks like they are finally pulling the plug. Yes person is quite accurate when it came to the OSU coaches coming in and the portal. Use to publish Buckeye Sports Bulletin back in the day. I really hope it is true. But Holtmann seems to have 9 lives so we will see...

Not much of a hoops person, but have learned that the Ohio State basketball program will be moving on from Chris Holtmann some time today. The Buckeyes have been hugely disappointing this year, standing at 14-11 overall and 4-10 in league play after last night's loss to Wisconsin. Ohio State sits in 13th place in the Big Ten at the moment. The Buckeyes have dropped 16 straight road contests through last night. Holtmann will end his Ohio State career with a record of 137-85, with four trips to the NCAA Tournament but no advancement beyond the round of 32. Holtmann's first season in Columbus was his best as he led the Buckeyes to a 25-9 mark, but since then Ohio State has scraped to barely 20 wins in four seasons, and had a mark of 16-19 last season. Holtmann came to Ohio State after three successful seasons at Butler, including guiding the Bulldogs to the Sweet 16 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. No word on who will guide the team for the remainder of the season.

BREAKING Ohio State has fired Chris Holtmann, according to multiple reports.

OHIO STATE FIRES CHRIS HOLTMANN IN SEVENTH SEASON AS HEAD COACH

Ohio State is officially in the market for a new head basketball coach.

The Buckeyes, all but a lock to miss the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row after losing nine of their last 11 games, fired Holtmann midseason on Wednesday.
.
.
Outgoing athletic director Gene Smith and incoming athletic director Ross Bjork will start the search for Holtmann's replacement in earnest.

Just sayin': And now the "bad news".......Ohio State will owe Holtmann the roughly $17.5 million remaining on his contract.

No real choice at this point.

1 bad season will happen from time to time, but this season has followed the exact same pattern. The voice needed to change - and honestly the roster isn't compatible with Big Ten basketball really. They lack the mental and physical grit to get the job done despite looking the part at times. It's not natural to them as a group.

OSU is a top-25 program and that should be the baseline going forward. Holtmann had mostly held that line but when it cratered, it cratered totally.
