Chris Holtmann (ex-tOSU Bball coach, HC at DePaul)

Report: Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann could be 'Sleeper' candidate for Boston Celtics job

The Boston Celtics shook up their organization on Wednesday, as longtime general manager Danny Ainge stepped down and head coach Brad Stevens was promoted into the front office.

According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, Buckeyes coach Chris Holtmann could be a “sleeper” candidate to replace Stevens as head coach.

There’s a number of reasons why this would make sense. For one, Holtmann coached at Butler (Stevens’ alma mater) from 2014-17. According to Hollinger, they built a relationship off of that connection.

Holtmann also has a similar background to what Stevens did when the Celtics hired him. It would make sense for Boston to try to replicate that success.

I could see Holtmann taking the Celtics job but I sure as hell would now like it. It probably would put Ohio State basketball back I do not know how many years. I guess I will rest easy until I start seeing the speculation in other articles.

I like Holt. I think he is a good guy, has a good basketball mind and does things the right way. That being said, I don't think its the time to extend his contract any longer than the additional 4 years he currently has. Check back in a couple of years. If he goes 6 years without a B1G title or past the first weekend of the NCAA tourney, then I think his seat should feel a little warm.

Again, I like Holt. I want him to succeed. I really liked Matta too, but results (within the scope of doing things the right way) are what matter and $3.4M should produce results.

Year 5. Xavier resources vs. Ohio State resources. Xavier didn't even need to play well to beat this team. No titles. No Sweet 16s.

When is enough, enough. I'm fully convinced Jeff Boals could run this program better and that's not even a big name candidate
