Chris Ash (Secondary Coach Jacksonville Jaguars)

"Right now Ohio State is the Cadillac of college football, not only here in the east division of the Big 10, but just in college football," said new Rutgers Head Coach Chris Ash.

"Just the way they do business, the way they recruit, the quality players they have there, everybody aspires to have a program run like that," said Ash.

"Here at Rutgers we're going to be doing business the best way that we can and a lot of that is based on things that I was exposed to at Ohio State," said Ash.

Rutgers Coach Chris Ash makes his first blunder

As a history teacher, I'd always get the question, "Why do we have to learn this?". I could always fall back on the Spanish philosopher George Santayana's famous statement:

Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

It appears that Coach Ash has decided to forget the past, and in so doing has, in my opinion, shown a good deal of disrespect for Rutgers' history and tradition. What little there is.

The story of what is happening is chronicled in a story by Gannett writer Ryan Dunleavy:

In #AshEra clean slate, #RFootball does away with Frank Burns, Mark Mills and Douglas Smith spring camp awards. https://t.co/MpLSPtVfjl

— Ryan Dunleavy (@rydunleavy) April 14, 2016

Frank Burns was the most successful coach in Rutgers history, a football star at RU (and we don't have a lot of them), and a Rutgers Hall of Famer. The award was a recognition of mental and physical toughness during spring football. And I thought we were looking for tough players. It had been given out for a quarter century. Even St. Greg didn't mess with it.

I did not know that.

Is Ash just "cleaning house" or is he having a problem keeping players?

2016 early enrollee decides to transfer from Rutgers

Pollock was a three-star member of the Scarlet Knights’ 2016 recruiting class. He was an early enrollee who participated in spring practice a couple of months ago.

Pollock is the fifth player to transfer since Ash took over the program last December. He’s also the second in two days, joining tight end Charles Scarff.

Who was the coach when they played Princeton in the first ever soccer game with turbans?

Edit: William A. Reynolds - career W/L of 49-80-9 which includes the inaugural 1-1 season. Birthplace of college football and also the birthplace of the .355 win percentage. Historic indeed.

After Reynolds, they began the rich tradition of having a new coach every one or two seasons. After all, somebody had to know how to coach the game that Rutgers was the birthplace of.

He's cleaning house. I was told when he got hired that a lot of kids weren't going to like the change. Ash doesn't fuck around, apparently.
