Chris Ash (Secondary Coach Jacksonville Jaguars)

Ash is going to be great for this program... and the type of kids that play for Rutgers (excluding those in prison) will be the exact type of players he loves
they play all out with heart more than talent... undersized but fast... won't compete for B1G East titles.. but they'll be back to annual bowl games

Uh... Huh, huh. You said Big East. Huh, huh.

Chris Ash Remains as Professional as Ever During his Transition to Rutgers

AshHelmets.jpg

It could be an awkward situation. Two coaches working side by side for one more game, knowing that in a few short weeks, they will be working against each other.

That is the situation at Ohio State’s Woody Hayes Athletic Center until the Buckeyes play their final game of 2015, Jan. 1 against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash was named the head coach of Rutgers at the beginning of the month, but won’t take up that position full time until this season’s duties with OSU are finished.

That means while Ash is helping to prepare the Silver Bullets to face the Fighting Irish, he is also preparing his new situation in New Jersey.

“Right now we're still a staff together trying to make sure we finish this thing out the right way,” Ash said.

“I get here early in the morning, I return phone calls, e-mails, take notes on some things that I need to try to get done in the next day or two. When we take a break from game planning over the noon hour, I again make calls, return e-mails, I do things that I need to get done. And then when we're done, at the end of the day, I'm here late and I go home and I just continue to do work.”

DIFFERENT HATS: HOW CHRIS ASH IS SPENDING HIS FINAL DAYS AS OHIO STATE CO-DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

65390_h.jpg,qitok=VDFb-KqS.pagespeed.ce.G6Sp9skFVA.jpg

Chris Ash isn't spending much time with his wife lately.

"I get here early in the morning, I return phone calls, emails, take notes on some things that I need to try to get done in the next day or two," Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach said Thursday. "When we take a break from game planning over the noon hour, I again make calls, return emails, I do things that I need to get done. And then when we're done, at the end of the day, I'm here late and I go home and I just continue to do work."

Sounds like someone with a pair of high-profile jobs, which is exactly what Ash is trying to equally weigh as the 2015 calendar winds down.

The man mainly responsible for the two-year turnaround of Ohio State's defensive backfield, Ash accepted the head coaching position at Rutgers University nearly three weeks ago. The schoolofficially announced his hire Dec. 7, but before he fully sets his sights on rebooting the dumpster fire in Piscataway, New Jersey, he has one more game to coach under Urban Meyer.

"The one thing I always ask, just be extremely professional about your job, do what you've got to do," Meyer said Thursday. "Because here's the most important person in all of this — people in all of this are the players ... We have a chance to win our 50th game in four years.

"So be very much a professional, and he's done that. Chris has been great."
