The Commission on Chicago Landmarks unanimously voted Thursday to approve the Cubs' plans to build a two-story sportsbook adjacent to Wrigley Field.

The addition will take at least a year to build, sources told ESPN. It will be open to the public before, during and after games, and while fans will be able to enter Wrigley Field from inside the sportsbook, they won't be required to be attending the game to make bets inside.

"With this approval by the Chicago Landmarks Commission, we are excited to realize the potential envisioned by the State of Illinois to bring revenue, jobs and an exciting amenity to our fans," the Cubs said in a statement. "This sportsbook will play a huge role in helping to create economic impact through job creation, wages, investments and revenue for the City, State and County at a time when new sources of revenue are needed to fund infrastructure projects and education."

Cubs have a season-high 12-game losing streak, just ahead of the 11-game streak they had a month ago. During the streak, they were swept by the Marlins for the first time in nearly a decade. 12 games also represents the longest losing streak for Chicago in many years.

Went to Ohio State Day today at Wrigley. Got a free hat. Almost caught a home run ball (asshole behind me pushed into me at the last minute; thankfully he didn't get it either). Andre Dawson did "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Cubs came back in the last innings to win 4-2.

Man, the bleachers have changed since I first started going to Cubs games in the late 80s. On a Wednesday day game, there wasn't one single ejection for drunkenness much less a full on fistfight like the good old days. It was full of families and kids.
