Chicago Bears (official thread)

The Bears are a mystery to me.

A). Incredibly passionate fanbase
B). Great facilities
C). One of the NFL's founding franchises
D). Clear identity - Run the ball and play good defense

And they constantly screw it up. I imagine really poor coaching is the root of the problem but I have no idea how to fix it.
I would assume if they fire Eberflus - they go after Bill Belichek in the off season

Similar to the Clowns, the issue starts at the very top of the org.

My football fandom came of age in the mid-late 80's. Back then, the Bears were a freaking force. From 1984-88, they were 62-17. Ultimate ground and pound team. Payton, McMahon, Jumbo Covert, Dent, Singletary, Hampton, McMichael, Fencik, Duerson, Wilber Marshall. Seemed like they had the foundation of a dynasty, but they never realized it. That 1985 defense is still the most wicked defense I've ever seen. Now, they're a laughingstock. They've spent most of the last 30 years wandering in the wilderness. Just 6 playoff appearances in that span. Sure, they've bubbled up to be semi-competitive from time-to-time, but they've never been able to put together any sustained success. That's what happens when you have piss-poor ownership and management.

Ditka was an arrogant jackass who couldn't handle Buddy Ryan getting any credit for 1985. Never won a thing without him.
