The most important thing is paying lip service to the people and teams who used to be successful and being arrogant based on their success.

Michigan fans can all feel good about that while ignoring that a false sense of accomplishment seems to be 90% responsible for their players never amounting to anything on failed teams.

Step 1: through the recruiting process, the player is attracted to the arrogance of Michigan even though they haven’t accomplished anything of note for years.

Step 2: that same trait causes them to fail while at the school.

Step 3: attract a new set of recruits who like being arrogant about being great without having to do anything.

Tradition!
