Chase Bisontis (OL Texas A&M. transfer to ???)

I believe this applies here:

Ohio State is not offering big NIL deals up front for players, which I believe is illegal but won’t be enforced either way, and some kids are going to drop the Buckeyes because of that.

Its not illegal, its a strategy. Teams desperate to be relevant again(i.e. Tennessee, aTm, Tejas, etc) will throw money at kids who set foot on campus. While it seems Bama and OSU are taking a wait and see approach. We'll see the better strategy soon enough. Because in football, moreso than basketball, coaching matters. And all that talent doesn't matter without solid coaching

OSU and Bama can wait and see if they will actually develop into anything .. then at that when they inevitably enter the portal… they can make their move…

That seems to be Bama's MO, more than OSU's at the moment

But I wonder how those aTm and Tennessee donors feel when Saban bends them over even with all of their high priced signees

It is.

Technically, it’s illegal, but it’s smart to use NIL deals as recruiting tools

Technically, it would be an NCAA violation.

It's not illegal. The laws that allow for athletes to profit from their NIL do not have any restrictions on when....that I am aware of.

Semantics at the end of the day. NIL is used as a recruiting tool and it's impossible to govern currently. A school would be foolish to not compete in this area and OSU is not foolish about it.

Thought I read that the coaches cannot offer money directly but can insinuate that there are NIL options available if people sign. Directly offering or giving a recruit money is still pay for play which is NCAA jail time. That is, if you are Ohio State.

This is how I have read it as well. I also don't think any money is supposed to change hands until the player is on campus and enrolled. Like all of you I don't believe this has happened at certain schools.

I also disagree with Pnuts on a statement he made about $100,000 or $1,000,000 being life changing. An argument can be made for $1,000,000 but by the time taxes are paid it's not really that much money. $100,000 is nowhere near life changing money. From what we know of athletes (and their leeches) that money is likely to be drained with the quickness.

Back to Chase, we have an NIL thread to opine in. On that note, would love to have Chase in this class but I feel like we are on the outside looking in at the moment. That said, full steam ahead in trying to land him.
