Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Some random thoughts on Charlie Weis:

  1. It's good for football in the Midwest if these guys make a change and a title run every ten years.
  2. Kelley and Stoops are tops on everyone's list. What's not to like about taking this job?
    1. If you're Kelley, you get out of Cincy while the getting is good. If you are Stoops, you get out of Oklahoma and avoid saying "nice game" to Mack Brown again next year.
    2. You're near great shopping and cultural activities in Chicago. Greater harmony in the home.
    3. You get to bring the team together and play Rudy tapes, sing Rudy songs, listen to Rudy deliver motivational speeches, and watch Rudy occasionally lead your team onto the field before a loss to a ranked opponent.
    4. You're not expected to take the program to its former dizzy heights.
    5. Just winning ten games every couple years and a top 15 finish will get you undying adoration.
    6. Everybody knows that Charlie Weis left the cupboard bare.
I just don't see a lot of FAIL in there.

It would be interesting to know what opposing coaches thought as they watched Notre Dame film. Claussen, Minor, Floyd, and Tia Mia -- or whatever the hell the name of the Hawaiian LB was, were better than average talent and the wide receiver, kick returner was one of the best, if not the best in CFB this year.

Was it the lack of talent or was it the coaching or a combination of both, because if you couldn't have a 10 - 3 season with this schedule you have to wonder what it would take to get to 10 - 3.

Love to have been a fly on the film room wall.

I find it highly funny that Heavy C's best seasons came with the supposedly dreadful Ty Willingham players.

2005 9-3
2006 10-3
2007 3-9
2008 7-6
2009 6-6

I really think ND has the talent. The recruiting classes have been damn good the past 3 years. The offense is there. If they had a defense they could have been a top 10 team. Hard to find a better duo than Tate/Floyd. Their offense can be one of the best next year if everybody returns.

I do want to give a heartfelt thanks to Charlie Weis:

Jabba, thank you for everything you've done for my generation. You planted a seed with your comments about Jim Tressel 5 short years ago - and today that seed continues to grow deep within my soul. Without you, I would have never felt this way towards Notre Dame as they really have not been too relevant in the last 15-20 years. Thank you Chuck.

What did he say about Jim? I missed that.

$18mil will buy a lot of steak and mash potatoes! He don't need another job.
But it's an easy bet to see why the Domers will just screw this all up again. They want to be like Harvrad and Yale but have a Florida football program. Not gonna happen. Have they learned anything? A solid coach will make them a winner, just not USC or Florida.
