Charlie Strong (former coach)

Does UFM have a 2 year policy for coaches? This being year 1 for Schiano would mean another year left to coach in the agreement. Still, I could see Strong coming in to coach and I would gladly take that if we lose Fickle and Schiano in the next couple years.

I don't think that policy extends to guys with resumes like Schiano, I think it's more to guys who Urban is giving a chance.

Probably a decent chance he is our DC next year. He is going to get fired. Schiano will probably get a head coaching job. Fickell will probably have a look at a head coaching job too, and even if he doesn't, it doesn't seem like Urban is comfortable turning over the defense to him. I could see Urban turning to Strong as a guy he has worked with successfully before and also b/c he is a very qualified candidate.

Strong would be a great DC for us should a vacancy occur and he become available.

Fickell hasn't appeared to be a serious candidate for the top tier head coaching positions lately.

The reality is that most head coaching opportunities for these guys might come from a lower tier school; and they ultimately may better of staying at Ohio State as a coordinator another year or two and wait on a tier one school head coaching job.

I've seen reports/posts that Meyer had a two year policy; however, who knows if there actually is such a policy. Also, it has been reported that Meyer and Schiano are really good friends; so even if there was such a policy I could see Meyer encouraging him it take a job if a good opportunity did come his way.

Larry Coker won a National title.. guess he's a great coach too? Gene Chizik too

Those guys both inherited programs that were ready to win championships in their 1st or 2nd year. Mack built Texas back up from mediocrity into a dominant program that had a great 10-year run including that NC in the middle. (If he got in today, he'd be top-20 in wins among HOF coaches with 244.) He was never known as a great gameday tactician or anything, but he was a great recruiter and program-builder as a head coach. As a recruiting fan I was always in awe of the way he loaded up UT's classes with 5-star linemen a year before signing day.
