CFP Title Game, Alabama vs tOSU, Jan 11, 8:15 ET on ESPN, Miami

Didn't say that- if completely healthy with Dickerson and Waddle it's the best offense that I've ever seen at Bama, and I would challenge you to find an offense with as much NFL talent on any team in history. That I stand behind. The weakness is on defense, I wonder if the DC is a weakness, not a Pete Goulding fan. OSU can win it, but of you do it will be because your offense had a great night, like Clemson.

I get your point, and agree for most part. Alabama’s offense is ELITE. The one offense I’d probably challenge you with is 2001 Miami that just shredded teams. I agree Mac Jones is better than Dorsey and Najee Harris and Davonta Smith are right their with Miami elite. Different offensive styles with the skill set of Najee Davenport at FB..

But canes had Clinton Portis backed up by Willis McGahee.

Andre Johnson
Roscoe Parrish
Jeremey Shockey at TE

Offensive line set a record for fewest sacks.

I know we are talking about offense.....but damn, that 2001 Miami defense was ridiculous too. For my money, prob best college team I’ve seen.

For me, and I don’t have any inside scoop, but it looks like Togai is out which is crushing. But I like the heart of this team with everything they’ve been through. It’s rare you get a DT who can shut down the run, but equally implode the pocket as a pass rusher. Haskell Garret and Tommy Togiai have been elite, and working against a 2nd string center would’ve given us a huge boost. Just going on the rumors, it seems Togiai is out, and there’s a massive step down to our backup DT (no knock Vincent or Gage...it is what it is).

I am curious to see how Saban plans to attack OSU offense. I feel teams have sat on the deep ball a lot not believing he’d check down, causing him to hold ball too long, and make bad late decisions. But in game he flipped that on its head by checking down to RB and finding TE’s quick. I’m curious if Fields can continue that style of play or if it was kind of a 1 time deviant from the mean. I think he shocked Clemson with his quick progressions and check downs to Sermon. The space those guys had at times was huge.....and if I were Clemson I’d have come in exact same way. So I like Bama will have to at least play a little more honest and give Wilson and Olave chances to get open deep.

Smith is best WR in CFB. Hands down. In terms of a duo, I think OSU is right there tho. Especially with Waddle coming off injury. I like Meetchie but he isn’t Olave or Wilson IMO.

Anyways.....like the Clemson game, the line makes perfect sense to me, especially if Togiai is out. Najee Harris is filthy and it’ll be tough for OSU to be elite defensively without our biggest strength which was DT. Those guys have wrecked games. I’ll be astonished if they can stop Bama run game without Tommy. I hope I’m wrong.

Should be fun....I hope.

This is going to be an interesting chess match-up, in that all year, Mac Jones has been more of a PG who is a distributor moreso that a locket QB who waits for passing conceits to develop.

He throws the ball faster from snap to his hand, and ball released, than any QB in country. And it makes perfect sense. They identify match-up they want, and do a great job of getting ball into their playmakers hands.

It’s going to be imperative for OSU to mix up coverages, and if they can, force 3rd and medium longs (nothing ground-breaking here). But OSU has consistently been a team that focuses in stopping the run first. I think with Najee Harris as a pass catcher, it stresses OSU’s “stop run first” strategy. Najee is a lot different than Ettiene in that Harris actually runs WR route concepts from slot, and is damn good. Ettiene is more of a screen game RB. If Najee Harris wasn’t an elite RB, I think he’d be a d man good WR. He’s that talented.

One thing I have noticed this year and love...is just our defense since experience. Not only were Cooper and Hilliard elite recruits coming in, they’ve been amazing locker room guys, and dudes who have committed to the strength and conditioning program. They pop off the screen to me.....I don’t think it’s just because they’re good college players, I think they’re grown men playing against really good college players. It makes a difference....not just the experience...but the physical ability they have.

And I just realized every time I’ve talked about game, I have mentioned our offensive line.....which is nasty. And has some good bulletin board material in Bama taking O-line of year. I would not trade our offensive line for Bama’s and that’s saying something, bc Bama’s o-line is insanely talented. But we have really gelled last 5 weeks.

I'd disagree with you... Etienne is the more explosive of the two and IMO is the better WR. Now I think Harris is 2x the actual RB of Etienne but otherwise I'd take Etienne as a receiver.

What shouldn't be lost in all of this in regards to Alabama's offense is... Mac Jones is not an athlete and he's not a threat to kill us running. Sure he can pick up first downs but he cannot beat us running like Trevor Lawrence did in 2019. The fact we do not have to worry about the QB running IMO just might be the big difference between the two elite offenses.

One of these defenses is going to break IMO and IMO our offense is just a little harder to defend due to JFs running ability.

Thanks for your informative posts. I enjoy disecting the teams. It's a shame that neither team is 100%. Dickerson was my favorite offensive lineman and would have enjoyed watching him match up against Togiai, not familiar with him but he sounds pretty damned good. Good luck and have fun! Amazing that we almost didn't have a season and here we are in the title game.

I disagree...Etienne isn’t lining up like this and working from outside/slot.

I can post significantly more.....Ettiene has been lethal in screen game, and slips from the backfield. Harris is different in that they’ll flex him to WR, and he’s a threat within the route tree. It isn’t just eye candy like so many teams who split their RB’s wide.

How many first rounders do you have?
Garrett will be a top 50 pick. Togiai, who probably isn't playing, should be when he declares, if not higher. We'll have to see about the ends, they are mostly a young unit. Cooper is a solid guy but probably not a high draft pick. The future draft talent is Harrison and Smith. The latter is making big strides lately.

Baron Browning has elite athleticism as a pass rusher. Not sure they trust him on less than 3rd and 10 (he's a starting LB who may get some situational reps at DE)

They do not have an instant nfl pro bowl rookie like the last 6 seasons.

If I were a betting man, I'd say they have 4 guys that will eventually be top 3 round picks, , mostly top 2, but I'm not sure if Harrison and Smith are going to put it all together on Monday. Or if smith is in miami.

These are the giant shoes to fill if tommy can't go (72)

There are rumblings of a false positive for osu, meaning someone thought to be gone is back.
