Game Thread CFP Playoff Cotton Bowl, tOSU vs Texas, Fri. Jan. 10th, 7:30 ET on ESPN

Dang, my login still worked. Looks like I haven't posted in 5 years. Sup

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really wish the Cotton Bowl was still being played at... the Cotton Bowl. Old, insufficient concessions, long lines for the pisser, outdoors and cold (by TX standards). But man it has so much history and character. Would love to be sitting there in 35 degree weather with a flask of bourbon to watch this game. That would be epic for this matchup.

But instead we get JerryWorld, the soulless stadium expression of Botox Skeletor himself. They'll have the roof closed so it'll be more comfortable. But meh, $30 beers and sterile private equity vibes sap some of the excitement. I'll still be there.
Agree.

Welcome back brother!

A LB at UT than ran a 4.3? Ya sounds koolaid-y. Derrick Johnson in 2004 ran 4.5. But you didn't face him. Drew Kelson was a converted running back if I remember correctly, maybe someone was talking about him.
I had to search to remind me, but it was xrayrandy talking about Sergio Kindle I believe. May have touted him as a 4.2 guy.

I did find this though:
LB: We lose Harris but return everyone else. Our "starters" will probably be that in name only. We'll rotate a whole lot, just like last year. Killebrew and Bobino return, as does Drew Kelson but he might move back to safety, and we add Sergio Kindle. If I was gay and had a thing for linebackers, Sergio's face would be all over my house.
Not comparing you two. Just had to bring that one back from the dead.

lol Kindle was awesome but 4.2 he was not. spent more time as DE, at least later in his career. Ran a 4.6 at the combine
What are your thoughts on Sark's handling of Arch + Quinn?

It's interesting to watch his trajectory, and wonder where he/OSU would be if he stayed (especially in 2023) I don't think many folks felt he came here for more than a payday, and good for the kid to work the system that may have nothing waiting for him at the next level.

Welcome the Hell back!

For those who don’t remember, or weren’t around during the previous Texas-tOSU matchups, E-Horn is a very solid poster whose opinions are valued here. Let’s not treat him like the return of xrayrandy.

Absolutely, and that was a pretty solid contingent of fans. I just was seeking out Xray's silliness, and while doing that unsuccessfully, I came across E-Horn's undying love for Sergio

Grading on a curve, he's handed it as well as possible. Impossible to have this situation without some controversy.
Comparing their body of work this year, Arch has looked better, but it was against much worse competition when Quinn was injured. They both looked like ass in the first Georgia game. Despite how frustrating he can be at times, Quinn probably gave us the best chance to win over the course of the entire season, but that's just a hunch. His maturity and calm (bordering on lackadaisical) nature has mostly been a valuable intangible asset this year.

But he's inconsistent. Hard to tell how much of that is Sark overcomplicating things. I guess we'll know next year. He's probably outside the top 25 FBS QBs in terms of deep balls. Other than Bama in 2023 and Q4/overtime of the Peach Bowl against ASU, he has not been clutch (though he hasn't had to be very often). He often comes out of halftime looking like he forgot how to play football, but see the Sark comment above. He's not very mobile and he takes a lot of sacks, though some of that has been lingering injuries. Throws a catchable ball that sometimes lacks zip. He follows up his spurts of brilliance (usually 1-2 quarters per game) with a lot of sloppiness and WTF moments.

Overall, I'm grateful for Quinn. He's been a good quarterback for UT. Will be interested to see how he does with a different coach, whether that's in the NFL or another CFB team next year.

I don't think Arch would've beaten Georgia either time. But he's the guy next year.
