ASU game was ugly and I blame most the defensive struggles on the offense. At the end of the first half, ASU had 50 pays to UT's 22, and UT was up 17-3. After the 3rd quarter, ASU had 72 plays to UT's 28, and UT was up 24-8. They ended up with 97 plays for the game. About midway the the 2nd quarter, the intensity on D fell off because they were gassed. That's when the O needed to respond with a few long, sustained drives and that didn't happen.
The offense had 3 3-and-outs, a one play drive that ended in a safety, and a 2-play drive that ended in an INT. These stretches of offensive ineptitude (Sark overcomplicating things and Quinn having brain farts) have been a theme all year, and if it happens again in the Cotton Bowl, we're going to lose. There were several games where the D bailed out the offense. The recent Ohio State offense is better than any we've played all year so that's not going to work on Friday.
Against Clemson, Klubnik and the young Clemson receivers were on fire. Several perfect throws into tight windows and tough catches. It's a good defense, maybe not the best in the country though. They've been very good at limiting big plays and forcing opposing offenses to sustain long drives to score any points. But again, none had the weapons that Ohio St has.
