Cavs need offense, turn to Delonte West

INDEPENDENCE Stay aggressive, play aggressive, be aggressive.

Over and over, game after game, Delonte West hears the same things from coaches and teammates.

When the Cavaliers point guard takes those words to heart, the results can look like his impressive performance Saturday.

West did plenty in Game 3 to help the Cavs get a much-needed 108-84 win over the Celtics to climb back into the Eastern Conference semifinals. He scored, passed, defended and, in general, led the Cavs like a veteran point guard.

"When he plays like that," shooting guard Wally Szczerbiak said, "when he gets us into our offense, when he gets our scorers ... the ball in positions where we can do something with it, that's when we're a very good team."

Cavaliers notebook: Game 3 means nothing if Game 4 is a flop

INDEPENDENCE Getting a win in Game 3 meant plenty to the Cavaliers on Saturday night. By Sunday afternoon, though, the Cavs were all about tonight's Game 4 against the Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

"It can really put the pressure right back on them and send them home 2-2 or put us in a huge hole," center Zydrunas Ilguaskas said

The Cavs are coming off their best game of the playoffs, a 108-84 win over the Celtics.

"But we know if we lose the game (tonight) then (Saturday) night's game really won't mean anything because they will go home with a chance to close the series out," Ilgauskas said.

Much of the talk has been about the Cavs' offense, but they know they must continue getting it done defensively. They have limited Boston to 83 points a game on 41.1 percent shooting.

"That's what were going to have to do if want to keep advancing ... and win a championship," point guard Delonte West said. "We have to hang our hat on defense and let the offense take care of itself."

Sports spotlight: LeBron James doesn't have to score to contribute
Monday, May 12, 2008

CLEVELAND Like something out of a Wile E. Coyote box of tricks, there was LeBron James, seemingly with rockets attached to his heels, soaring through the air.

In the third quarter of Cleveland's blowout win Saturday over the Celtics in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, the King's elbow was above the rim.

This was the third quarter, and the Cavaliers superstar, struggling with his shot and ineffective at times on offense, was doing what he does. James was helping the Cavs win, and keeping the Celtics from trying to scratch back into a game they had no business scratching back into.

Then James pinned Rajon Rondo's layup against the backboard. A collective gasp of "oooohs" and "aaahhs" filled Quicken Loans Arena. If the Celtics didn't get the message that was delivered for 2 1/2 quarters before that play, they got it then.

The fact that the Celtics were so good all season on the road and haven't won on the road yet in the playoffs makes me extremely nervous. On the other hand, the fact that LeBron hasn't played really well all series makes me confident we can pull this one out. Go Cavs!

It's pretty obvious that Boston's plan is to take Lebron out whenever they can. That wrap up by Pierce was extremely excessive. There was no need to grab on to him for that long. Props to Lebron for not turning around and knocking him out.
