Cbf40's look at '11 recruiting

A week later and two more in the bag. Hale and Spencer.

Qb - Done
RB - No
WR - Still have Wynn in...(Guys like Dorsett, Story, and Smith continue to get thrown around if we go for 3)
TE - Vanett will join before the season starts.
OL - Walker fnishes it off I believe, maybe Mangiro as a 6th
DL - Sturdivant if Grades, if not maybe they try for someone else, McReynolds?
LB - Too many good things for DePreist to go elsewhere, Still have Vaughters and Crowell we are recruiting. Tress will find a way to get 2 he always does.
DB - I believe we land Grant and Tanner and one more of a long list of guys. (Gorman, Kirby, etc.)

QB - Miller
WR - Wynn
WR - Spencer
TE - Heuerman
TE - Vanett
OL - Brown
OL - Bobek
OL - Underwood
OL - Carter
OL - Walker
DE - Hayes
DE - Miller
DE - Sturdivant
DT - Bennett
DT - Farris
DT - Hale
LB - DePreist
LB - Vaughters / Crowell
DB - Cash
DB - Gambrell
DB - Grant
DB - Tanner
DB - Kirby

Still looks the same other than maybe a 3rd WR, other than a 2nd LB.

That's a total of 23 schollies. I know most are estimating it to get up to 22, do you have any reason for going one higher, or is it just an assumption that we'll get there eventually? I'm still really confused on how many we have, what with everything I've been hearing: Jermil Martin might have transfered, Jamel Turner is a big question mark, same with Erick Howard.
With Turner's probable loss from the '10 class, I'd support the staff allocating WR spots to LB's. I'm hoping the pro-Bama sentiment surrounding DePreist (especially the past day or two) is just speculation, because I'd really like to see a top flight LB fill the void Turner's situation is leaving.

I mentioned in my last post, that the number is probably 22, just put 23 on there, because I am not sure who to take off...

It will come down to whether we take 3 WRs (I only have us taking 2), Whether Sturdivant gets in (I think he will), and whether we take 2 LBs (We always seem to find a way to take an extra LB), and whether we take 5 DB's (Too many offers and solid chances at guys to believe we wont)

So 3 spots for those 4 options.

I am thinking we try and take a 3rd WR, Sturdivant gets in and we take 1 LB. That would put us at 22 and Kirby and Gorman don't become buckeyes. I will probably change that opinion tomorrow.

Exactly what I was referring to a few days ago in the rumor mill, should be interesting. Supposedly they already had to turn one elite player away, if the speculation in McReynolds thread is true.

Since Wells and Carter are effectively gone, Carter maybe not for good, and with Smith and Turner not making it, Smith maybe for 2011 out of Prep School like Carlos Hyde, does this class make it to 25? Or do we hold a spot for Rod Smith and Duron Carter and sign 23?

One can only assume that the staff suspected/knew this was coming for a long time...they probably knew they had more scholarships available than many of us assumed.

I don't think Carter and Smith would add scholarships to the '11 class (not that you said otherwise). If they don't end up with the team this year, I'd assume they have a spot for next year if they fix things.

I'd say that's a safe assumption until we hear things straight from Duron and Rod's mouths otherwise.
