Cbf40's look at '11 recruiting

Where are we on a scholly count refresh...

Milli's (Honu's? (Oh8ch's? (BKB's?))) chart says 21. Wells leaving makes it 22. I believe that's all that is certain?

There are maybe 6-7 that would not be huge surprises if they weren't here in 2011 (Duron, Smith, Pryor, Posey, Herron, Martin are the obvious ones). Of course there seems to always be a surprise or two as well. I could see it ending up anywhere between 22-25.

Why wouldn't Herron be back?

We're at 22 and might reach 23 if Martin transfers. I don't think Roderick changes the total, because chances are he'll be here for 2011 if he doesn't make it in this year (which JT just announced he thought he would be).

Duron is already counted out. Pryor, Posey & Martin are realistic possibilities. Herron isn't going anywhere.

I didn't notice Duron was already off the chart. I would think Tressel would hold a spot for him. That would put us back at 21 right now with Martin and Duron the only possibility we're aware of outside of early entries.

If he wanted to go pro. He's more of a long shot than Pryor and Posey but I personally wouldn't see it as a "huge surprise" if it happened. I'd say that about any solid 4th year RB though.

It would be a big surprise to me. I like Herron as a player but he's basically Mike Hart redux. Good vision but neither the size nor speed to be feature back material.

I highly doubt Herron too, but maybe we see a Antonio Pittman type of case where a decent year gets Herron into the spot he thinks he can best go (3rd or 4th), while also knowing there is some great talent behind him.

Correct, but that is why they leave sometimes. Think Brian Hartline. Regardless of whether he stays for another year, his draft stock isn't going to fluctuate much, so you leave and get paid an extra year of money. Probably not a bad idea for a mid to late round draft pick at a position where the wear and tear leaves these guys a short life-span.

That said, I don't expect him to go either, but it wouldn't be a surprise either. Antonio Pittman reminds me of this well...

Pretty much echoes my thoughts (thoughts that I haven't already said). When compiling a thorough list of potential early entrees that wouldn't be a "huge surprise", I don't know how you can leave off a 4th year RB that has been such a big contributor at a program like OSU. I still wouldn't bet on it straight up but I'd say the chances are at least 15%-30% right now.
