When Carpenter was injured on the first play of the Michigan game in 2005, Wilson was the one that replaced him as a true freshman. While he didn't play much in the Michigan game that year, he did get quite a few snaps in the bowl game against Notre Dame (from what I recall) after he had a few weeks to prepare with the first team D.
