CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

Thanks Crazy ... i appreciate your input ... i listen and read few peoples posts on this board, but your one i will always listen and learn from ...

Anyway, i agree with Watt for Marc ... also agree with Fragel being in there, but who do you take out (Muldoon?? / Banks??)

Not sure on who you take out...I would take out Banks for the time being...Just because I like Hunter and Vlad better and I think the chances of him getting a WR/DB type offer are slimming with Jackson in and likely Carter, and the staff looking at some big time WR prospects...

however i disagree with another DE due to prospects for the following class like Gholston ... If Lawrence Wilson has a break out year like he was projected to have last year then he might be gone, so who knows

yeah DE could be loaded next year with Gholston, Turner(LB/DE?), and JT Moore(DE/DT), but I was just saying it because I think that we saw 3 DE offers in the past 2 weeks...Just a thing to take note of....

A general question for you would be this ... If we have more than 25 open scholarships available for next year (due to all the seniors and possible early leaves or QB transfers?) can we add more than 25 players or is 25 the absolute max??

ps. i made the Watt for Marc edit in my last post due to Marc not getting an offer yet

I think there is a chance for 26...It would have to be the right 26, meaning that it would have to be a special player, and we would need at least to enroll early and count against last years class...

My understanding on this matter, and someone can please correct me if they know me to be wrong, is that the Big Ten allows its programs to "oversign" by up to 3 recruits (ie, allows 28 total signings in any one class), so long as the oversigning program provides the league with a written explanation of how the it intends to be under the 85-total-scholarship count by the beginning of the season. But I agree that it would seem Tressel would be unlikely to oversign, even if not doing so meant carrying fewer than 85 total scholarships, unless a really talented player was #26. He seems to like to aim for a balanced number of scholarships in each class, and would therefore rather see a scholarship carry over to the following season as opposed to signing 26 in one class.

Not Wad, but I think with that list we will have 4 OL...I would put Watt on the list for now...From the looks of some of the last offers, the staff might be pushing for another DE???...I have not turned the corner on Marc yet...I will believe it when he gets an offer...Think that the staff could take a 4th WR if it is the right one...Like Boyd, Brown, Evans, etc...

I would add Watt to the list, and then take Marc off...Still think you gotta have Fragel in there or at least a spot for a TE...Then I think that with the way recruiting is going, Pryor in house, and a big year this fall that we will attract a big time player, that is not on the list right now...I just continue to get that feeling...

Seems we go farther into the recruiting season and there becomes more questions that we thought we had a grasp on...

Following up those posts...I would agree I would add Watt to the class. And Fragel as well. Probably not going to happen for Marc, but who knows. I ahve no idea what to make of Hyde...for now I'll go with this class:

RB - Jamaal Berry
RB - Jordan Hall
FB - Zach Boren
FB - Adam Homan (could play LEO or TE)
WR - Duron Carter
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Jackson
TE - Reid Fragel
OL - Jack Mewhort
OL - Marcus Hall
OL - Chris Watt
OL - Corey Linsley
DE - Melvin Fellows
DE - Jonathan Newsome
DT - John Simon
DT - Pat Muldoon
DT - Corey Adams
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Dorian Bell
CB - Brandon McGee
CB - C.J. Barnett
S - Vlad Emilien
S - Jamie Wood
S - E.J. Banks

That's my 25 for now...would love to see a surprise somewhere like Boyd or Teflort, but at whose expense?

Don't want to quote that Wad, but no Hunter? Interesting.

As I said yesterday...

Give me a DB class of Wood, McGee, Emilien, Barnett and either Hunter or Banks and I am ecstatic...no sour grapes here at all, but Givens is the one kid that was committed so far that I could have parted with. Any time you get a shotgun commitment like that, it's probably a good idea to temper your expectations as to whether or not that commitment is going to stick all the way to NLOID.

I don't know if there will be room for both so it might be a first come first serve...but everything I have heard says that Hunter is really interested in Indiana because playing time is readily available.

I am still waiting to see if there is movement with Justin Green...

Ok so if I get this right...With Grad's recent statement, of the staff being set on taking multiple TE's...Here is what I gather...

QB's - 0-1, there are no offers out there yet, but there have been rumors at times of interest in a QB or 2...Still not sure, as this one stays at 0 until an offer is made...

RB's - 2, we have heard this all along...Lots of chatter going around that Hall doesn't count against that 2...(Hyde and Berry are the top 2 guys)...

FB's - 1-2, some have said Boren will get a look at LB, Homan maybe TE?...Either way we are done here...

WR's - 3, I thought 2-3 to begin with, now we have Fields and Jackson, Carter is looking good and it seems the staff is looking for a big time receiver, Brown, Boyd, Evans...So who knows...

TE's - 2, who I don't really know other than Fragel being the only one with an offer, but Sims, Hazelett, and Eifert are on the board...

OL - 4, we have heard 4 all along and we have heard that if Watt goes elsewhere that Klatt would probably get that spot...SO this is set at 4, unless of course Shrive would want to come, but would they turn down Watt then?

DL - 4, it looks like 4 is the number...Fellows, Simon, then Muldoon and Newsome with offers...Then we just offered 3 more DE in the past 2 weeks, Carradine is still out there, and one I really hope that we land is Adams...So 4 is a low number, if the right people want to join...

LB's - 3-4, count Boren and we have 4...No reason for anymore, unless they count Telfort as a LB...

DB - 6, it has seemed all year they have wanted 6...Like Wad said tho a class of Wood, Barnett, Vlad, McGee, Hunter or banks would be great...But at this point I would think they would take both Hunter and Banks...

That puts us at 27, not counting QB, taking 2 RB, 1FB, 3WR, 2TE, 4OL, 4DL, 4LB, 6DB, 1ATH(hall)...

Don't see us taking 27...It will be interesting who gets left behind, how many they take at each position, and how they can squeeze a player in that you save a spot for no matter what...Seems the numbers aren't quite adding up to what most would think you would take...I would cut 1DB, 1RB, or 1TE...

Let me just throw this out there...If we were taking chances of coming here out of the question here is how I would rate some of these guys...kinda like a wish list

RB - Berry, Hyde
WR - Boyd, Debose, Brown, Evans Appleton, Carter...
TE - Fragel, Hageman, Sims, Hazlett
OL - Hall, Shrive, Watt...
DE - Carradine, LaLota, Newsome, Arnett, Muldoon
DT - Adams, Bellamy
LB - Telfort
CB - McGee, Banks
S - Hunter, Vlad

If I could have 11 off the list I would take...Berry, Boyd, Hall, Shrive, Carradine, Lalota, Adams, Telfort, McGee, Hunter, Vlad

Being more realistic, and going by our needs...I see...
Berry, Hyde, Carter, Fragel, Hall, Watt, Newsome, Muldoon, McGee, Hunter, Vlad...Very good finish, but right now is a time when we need to strike when the iron is hot and if we can land a player, like Telfort, Boyd, Debose, Brown, LaLota, Adams you do that...

I keep thinking that we are done offering, but it seems like every day we send another one. Anybody have the feeling that some guys who are already committed might have agreed to greyshirt if we needed more ships? I just can't see the staff turning away a lot of these guys if they want in.

Absolutely ZERO chance of a kid with major D1 offers greyshirting...

Well if we probably won't take more than 25 and no one greyshirts, how do we take everyone? I know the answer is we don't, but with all the offers going out, it seems like there's something going on.
