Went back through the game tonight and yeah, Banks played an amazing game. He was the one guy I really though had to step up and boy did he. Need one more big one from on the 11th but he looks to be turning the corner in a big way.

Just announced his return. But tbh, this shouldn’t be a surprise. He looked average at best this year. Not sure why he’d leave to be a 5th round(at earliest) pick. A real off season and camp will go a long way in his development as a starter. And he could develop into another 1st rounder

I don't think any of our CBs were better than average-above average last season, tbh. And the fact that so many on this site have been hammering on Coach Coombs for the play of the DBs shows many agree. I also hope he improves his draft stock, as like many, I'm sure the craziness of the B1G messed up development

The fact Banks was the one to draw Smith tells you he was our best.
What I've come to realize is we have to decide what we want to do. Do we want to press? Then fine press and get out guys in their face. Do we want a small cushion? Then okay figure it out. Stop with this half way BS and commit.
Personally I'm leaning towards being a zone pressure team but they'll never do it. Kids these days thrive off of man coverage so run zone and confuse them.
Besides then we have eyes on the backfield.

Wade's departure means that Kerry Coombs' defensive backfield is going to need that leadership and veteran presence to come from someone else. And while he may be one of the least-talked-about corners in recent memory, Sevyn Banks has a chance to become the next big thing in the Buckeye secondary.

Sevyn Banks just tapping into ‘rare, elite’ potential for Buckeyes
Andrew Anderson knew what he was watching was different when he saw the freshman work.
Anderson trains defensive backs from around Florida. He coaches defense at powerhouse Jones High School in Orlando. He’s been around some of the best cornerbacks and safeties the Sunshine State has to offer.
The rare combination of size, speed, length and ability on the field doesn’t come by often, even in the football haven of Central Florida. But he knew the player he was watching was bound to be special when that player was just in his first year of high school.
“What usually separates an elite athlete from a good athlete is they have those certain things that’s just rare,” Anderson said. “When you have a 6-foot-2 guy who can transition like he’s 5-foot-10? That’s rare. That’s very rare. And then on top of it, him being coachable and hungry for the knowledge, that makes a guy elite. It really does. That’s what makes those type of guys who are at the Power Five rare …

Lettermen Row talked to Banks’ high school defensive backs coach and learned that Banks’ decision to return to the Buckeyes wasn’t taken lightly:
If that potential can be released, the “different” athlete Anderson noticed years ago will likely be one of the first cornerbacks taken in the 2022 NFL draft — after Banks has one more season with the Buckeyes, which he at least considered skipping after the loss in the national-title game.
“I wasn’t surprised — but I know he was torn, obviously, declaring versus staying,” Anderson said. “If he could do both, that’s what he would do because he loves Ohio State. He loves it there. He’s had a great experience there. I know if he could split himself in half, he would love to do both of them. But I wasn’t surprised because he loves the staff, his teammates, the Ohio State environment.

The folks in Las Vegas have the senior’s name as a favorite to garner first-overall pick honors in next year’s draft, the only Ohio State player listed. Banks has the 10th-best odds to be selected No. 1 overall in the draft at 25/1, according to BetOnline.ag. Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler has the best odds at 5/4. Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux has the second-best odds, holding an 11/4 chance.
