Agreed. Just going in the 1st round would be a great year for Banks. 1st overall isn't as realistic. But after 2020, Banks going in even the 1st 2rounds would be a feather in the cap of Coombs, and also aid in recruiting.

I don't know exactly where he is at with his 40 times, but he doesn't appear on film to have that top end speed and closing speed/step that some more recent elite OSU CB's have had coming out that would propel him into rd one. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Agreed wholeheartedly with that assessment. He's a long, rangy corner that is plenty athletic enough to stick with most guys in coverage. Can flip his hips well enough in coverage but needs to track the ball better in air. Closing speed is good but not elite. Most of that can improve, especially with more awareness and recognition, so a 1st round selection could be warranted with a good year. And hell to the yes we need that after last year.

In fact, the best QB prospect in a decade simply avoided trying to attack Banks, looking to attack instead between the hashes and on the other side.

Banks certainly benefitted from the presence of the corner on the opposite side, Shaun Wade, as Wade often drew the assignment of defending the opponent's top target early in the year. But Wade struggled to live up to his preseason billing as he fought through a lingering injury.

Banks, meanwhile, was able to develop in his shadow, quietly becoming a more reliable defender against both the run and the pass.

“Cornerback is a unique position,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said earlier this spring. “You have to bring it every play, and you have to have a short memory. Those guys are all competing at it, and they’re growing, they’re getting better."

How good can Banks be? We'll just have to wait until the fall to find out.

Just sayin': A lot of the off-season articles are all fluff and hype; however, I did think this "film study" did have some substance on his progress.

You can legit watch tape on every game last year and see Sevyn was our best cover corner. Especially in man.

Wade was pretty good in zone....struggled badly in man. Could just tell he was never comfortable pressing his responsibility and lead to huge cushions to keep ball in front. Just a really bad year for Shaun. But he landed in a great spot.

I think Sevyn will be solid next year.....1st rd pick? I’m skeptical. But possible. Definitely an upgrade from our #1 CB last year though.

The critical aspect to our secondary is going to be CB #2 and the nickel. We’ll see.....

We’ll see but I may disagree right now. I think Wade could play tight in ‘19 because of Fuller’s experience and the overall talent and cohesion among the DB’s. We need a stone cold beast at deep safety to bring it all together. I’m hoping Proctor is that and see no reason why young stars (Ransom, e.g.) can’t be groomed alongside him while playing bigger roles this year.

You both are right. Because the defensive backfield was terrible last year! And honestly, we really didn't have a real #1 CB last year. Banks and Wade were both above average at best last season. And Williamson wasn't much better. It didn't help that we were insanely thin at CB, this upcoming season doesn't have that problem. If Coombs can't find a #2(assuming that Banks is the #1) and Nickel from a list of: Brown, Williamson, Watts, Cavazos, Martinez, Johnson, Hancock than we have some major problems!
And I see no reason why Proctor and Ransom can't be dynamic Safeties in the back, whether we run single high or a regular 2 S alignment.
We also cannot overlook the (possible) importance of the Bullet position. Young, Williams and Hickman all bring unique but needed talent to the defense as well. While one may be more of a strength against spread teams, the other may be strength against power oriented teams

The latest—and for many, the most significant—would be Sevyn Banks' partnership with Raising Cane's alongside Oklahoma and LSU quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Myles Brennan.

Banks was quick to endorse Cane's on Instagram as his preferred post-workout meal of choice. No word on if Mickey Marotti has taken note yet.

Banks didn't merely settle for chicken fingers, however. He also set up a Cameo and is gladly taking requests for Ohio State fans everywhere.

I better start working on my football skills, I want to be sponsored by Cane's. I will take payment in the form of unlimited Caniac Specials, thank you.

lingering "tweak"? Concerning with Oregon on the horizon, Cam sidelined too, and the perimeter tackling put on display last night between the DB's and LB's.

side note: Did I hear Cam is scheduled to be back for Oregon?
