Scott relishes chances

DAYTONA BEACH -- The football season may be over, but the news is just starting to heat up with Seabreeze defensive back James Scott.

On Thursday, Scott announced that he would be playing in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 4. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN-U. The game was organized by Rivals, a nationally-known recruiting service. He'll head down to south Florida on Dec. 30 to begin preparations.

"It's going to be a big national game and televised, and I've got family down there so they can see me play," Scott said. "It's just another chance to get to play a high school football game against some of the best players in the nation. I didn't play in any of the playoff games (because of injury), so I'll be ready to go out there."

The senior finished his senior year with 63 tackles, 2 passes broken up, 1 interception and 3.5 tackles for loss. Basically, a lot of teams didn't want to go anywhere near the cornerback this year.

Scott also has some news on the recruiting front. The senior, who is the most hotly recruited player in the area this year, has one more official visit to take -- to the University of Florida next weekend. Following that visit, he will announce his college decision at his team's banquet on Dec. 17.

The schools he's choosing from include three of the top five teams in this week's BCS poll -- Ohio State, Florida and Louisiana State. Also, Alabama is a school he had an official visit to. He'll pick from one of the four, and said he may attend school in the spring to get a jump start on things.

He can't wait to get that decision over with.

"It'll be real good to get off my back," Scott said. "I know where I'm going to be the next four years of my life, and it'll get the pressure off. Probably the most aggravating people are the people from Rivals. Other than them, it's not that bad. They just want to call you and do stories on you, and you answer the same questions over and over. It starts to get old."

As for his decision, nobody is in the lead at this point.

"As of right now, they kind of all stand equal," Scott said. "After that visit (to UF), I want to just gather my thoughts. I'm just not sure yet."
