Ole Miss: Scott is off the team
By MICHAEL LEWIS
Staff Writer The college football career of former Seabreeze star James Scott appears to have taken another twist.According to a release from the University of Mississippi late Wednesday, Scott has been dismissed from the Rebels for "a violation of team rules."
Scott, a 2007 graduate of Seabreeze, had transferred from Ohio State to Ole Miss last September, and had been going to school and working out with Mississippi in the offseason.
The release from the school didn't specify anything further, and neither James Scott nor Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt could be reached for comment Wednesday.
Kenny Scott Sr., James' father, said he talked to his son Wednesday and was surprised to learn of the dismissal.
"James told me he was having a meeting with (Nutt today), and everything was going to be worked out," Kenny Scott Sr. said. "I think he missed a couple of workouts, or something of that nature."
Scott played as a true freshman for Ohio State in 2007, recording six tackles. He was expected to compete for playing time right away for Ole Miss this spring.
James Scott's older brother, Kenny, recently signed a contract to play in the Canadian Football League, while youngest brother Jonathan signed a scholarship with West Virginia University in February.
